My folks were Irish, and when they retired in the mid-80s, they returned home and settled near Baltinglas. A big U2 fan, I’d read a bit about the band and knew where they’d gotten their start. So, while on a visit to my parents, I took a trip into Dublin and went dancing at McGonagal’s. I don’t remember the band’s name or their music. The were pretty good, and they were loud as hell. It was not a full house but everyone there was dancing… it wasn’t the usual dancing one sees in U.S. clubs because a bunch of folks were also jigging and reeling around, elbows linked, bashing into each other. It was hilarious and I had a blast.
