Premature Solicitation!

I first heard this phrase from a guy called Ivan Misner of www.bni.com , he observed that a lot of business people are too eager to sell when they meet a new contact.

We have all been there, we are at a social event or a business seminar and we are introduced to someone who literally goes in for the kill straight away — “Hi my name is Bob and I sell life insurance, I would love to sell you a policy” or “I’m Janna, I am a realtor, where do you live, are you thinking of buying or selling?”, this is the biggest turn off when meeting someone, it is narcissistic, banal and self serving.

The same applies on Social Media, you need to offer value first when reaching out to new contacts or influencers, they need to see that you are willing to work hard to build a relationship before getting into the business side of things.

On Social Media, and in real life, we should not be selling, we should be connecting and telling our story. Gary Vaynerchuk talks about story telling all the time, he talks about putting out content and not being afraid of getting the lighting wrong in a video or getting the word count too long in a blog, he says we should all just do it, no fear! Tell your story and people will connect with you, now you have their attention and who knows it might turn into a sale.

Cut out the Premature Solicitation, relationships take time and effort, eventually you won’t have to solicit the sale, it will literally come to you in spades!

Peace…
