Mobile UX Design: What Makes a Good Notification?
Nick Babich

Companies should do the absolute best they can to offer as many personalisation options as possible when it comes to notifications, so users can customise the amount of notifications they do receive and what determines those notifications. Some people may care if they’ve got a follower on an app, and take immediate action behind that. Others may deem it irrelevant and would rather not know.

Of course one can disable notifications from apps via their device settings on mobile, but having worked supporting mobile phones before I would suggest that a fair few people have literally no clue that they can do that, meaning that they might just lose patience and uninstall the app.

Definitely got to get people coming back to the app, but it can’t feel forced because people won’t tolerate it.
