Organic Basics, a sustainable fashion company based in Copenhagen, Denmark was founded by four Danish guys in 2015. They were sick and tired of owning overpriced, poorly designed underwear made by big dirty fashion labels. It wasn’t only the fact their underwear fell apart after only a few weeks, they also realised that the fashion industry was a “dirty bastard” with poor environmental standards. They decided that they could do better by creating underwear, socks and t-shirts that are a basically better made, consciously created, and designed to last. That appears to be exactly what they’re doing.

Organic Basics started off making organic cotton men’s underwear. The cotton was produced outside Izmir, Turkey, and it was manufactured under strict GOTS restrictions. That meant no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, genetically modified seeds, and poor workplace standards. Now, their collection includes organic cotton underwear, socks, t-shirts for men and women, and consciously created accessories. But shortly after they launched, they discovered that ⅔ of the environmental impact of a piece of clothing was created at the consumer phase from regular washing and drying. This was a problem that they felt like they had a responsibility to solve.

SilverTech was their answer. By reducing the need for regular washing, they create sustainability at the owners end. Silver is a natural antibacterial and thermodynamic mineral that has been used for thousands of years. Dating back to when the ancient greeks put silver coins in their water to purify it. Now, NASA use it in their international space station to do the same.

SilverTech uses a small amount of real silver to completely cover the thread, and this eliminates the bacteria that causes bad odours on the fabric. Organic Basics encourages their customers to wear their clothes more, and wash them less. Which not only reduces the environmental impact of their basics, but the garments actually last longer as they require less regular washing. Wearing more and washing less saves us time and money, too.

On the back of their successful launch of SilverTech for both men and women, Organic Basics have launched SilverTech 2.0, which promises to be the most sustainable and advanced collection of men’s underwear and t-shirts ever. SilverTech 2.0 is made from Q-Nova mechanically recycled nylon, seamlessly knitted for greater comfort and durability, and treated with Polygiene® for odor control. The recycled nylon is a Class A fiber developed in Italy from post-industrial waste fibre, yarn from spinning factories, and waste from weaving mills, and Polygiene® is a a safe, Bluesign® approved silver salt (silver chloride) treatment for odor control made from recycled electronic, industrial, and photographic waste. The combination of technology in SilverTech 2.0 appears to put these basics at the top of the line when it comes to sustainable fashion.

By using the latest in innovative sustainable fabrics and odor control, SilverTech 2.0 will allow us to wear even more and wash even less. SilverTech 2.0 is LIVE on Kickstarter now.
