You’ve made a great point.
Facebook’s reactions are great. It’s a much more reliable data source that you can quantify. For example, 100 people voted “sad”, 50 people voted “angry”.
That is a valid, measureable method. The reason is that you’re not quantifying (remember, “quantify” means “counting” ) “sad” or “anrgy” themselves; rather, your are quantifying (counting) the number of people who voted for that.
Medium should ditch the clap thing, and pick up on what Facebook, YouTube, and Netflix figured out: rating preference on via a numerical scale is unreliable.
