And He’s Whistling At Knees
Ré Harris

The “taking a knee” protests remind me of the 1968 Summer Olympics black protest by Smith and Carlos. It was silent but powerful, and spread. It must, however, feel like a lifetime of fighting. There is a photograph somewhere of a pro-Europe march (I think) and an old lady in her 80’s or so carrying a banner that reads “I’m 83 and I can’t believe that I still have to protest this shit.” That’s the gist, anyway. If I have to get my hippy clothes out I will. Fighting is better than lying down.
