This kind of thinking is very naive. You want to declare a group of people “here” as benevolent, caring, and supporting mankind’s Utopian vision, and a group of people “there” as evil, greedy, and incapable of seeing the big picture. The trouble with this is:
- It’s extremely racist, and results in the people “here” oppressing the people “there” — look at history.
- Both “here” and “there” are the same people. While you might believe yourself to be completely altruistic, intelligent, and capable of deciding what is good for everyone else, once you begin to reap the rewards of being in power chances are you’ll forget all about that as 99.9% of ordinary people do.
I was young and passionate once, and believed all this crap too. I’ve come to realize that the world is not as simple as a list of idealistic talking points, change can’t be decreed from the public square, and that government works exactly the same as corporations.
With regards to your fear about extinction and climate change please take a look at this https://www.epa.gov/air-trends/carbon-monoxide-trends — You see, despite what you’re being told, as a species we are actually making phenomenal progress on cleaning up our act. You’ll never see this in the press, because nobody got rich saying “Hey, Look, things are looking up please send money and show up at the rally”
