How To Write About Palestine
Meerabelle Jesuthasan

This is puzzling, since there is no place named “Palestine.” Is she referring to the Palestinian Authority controlled territories, which are certainly not “occupied.” Is she referring to Hamas controlled Gaza, about which the same is true? Is she referring to the disputed territories, which are controlled by Israel, in accordance with the provisions of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 and in accordance with the Oslo Agreements signed by the PLO? They’re certainly not occupied. Is she talking about Israel on its side of the 1949 armistice lines, which Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO tell their people is occupied by everyone else knows isn’t? Is she writing about the roughly 4/5 of Mandatory Palestine east of the Jordan River, i.e. the East Bank, which is currently called Jordan?
