A Latinx fan honors Argentina’s basketball legend for his timeless heroics in San Antonio

Who was your first Latinx sports hero?

Sadly for me, it took being away from my Latin roots to realize how important my culture was and to find my first Latin hero. When I lived in Mexico as a child, I did not idolize Rafa Marquez or Fernando Valenzuela. I didn’t care to recognize the achievements of Julio Cesar Chavez or Oscar De La Hoya. I admired Tom Brady or Kobe Bryant; I started cheering for the White Sox simply because I played a video game with Frank Thomas as the cover. Mexican athletes or any Latinx athlete just didn’t…

The San Antonio Spurs are the team that means the most to me. I may be a bigger football fan, but the Spurs are part of my culture. The team and my city are one and I love few things the way I love the Spurs.

With that being said, I cannot turn a blind eye to how disappointing that playoff run was. It hurt to watch, it made me angry and sad, but most of all it made me feel like things have truly changed in SA and how the beautiful game has come to an end.

The Spurs…

Before the annual Rodeo-Road Trip, the San Antonio Spurs were sitting pretty at the #5 seed in the west. Winning 5 straight home games, the Spurs looked well positioned for the NBA playoffs. Then the road trip happened and the Spurs went 1–7, which is the worst record the Spurs have ever had in the road trip, even loosing to the New York Knicks, the literal worst team in the NBA. Thanks to the worst basketball the Spurs have ever played, they dropped to the last spot in the playoff standing, fearing elimination with every upcoming game. Thankfully now back…

The Super Bowl is here and the chances of you watching it alone are very slim. Wether you will be watching the big game with family and friends, or at an establishment somewhere with strangers, you need to be informed of the many details regarding the game.

Allow me to help you be ready for your Super Bowl Sunday by providing you 3 levels of football talk. You are welcome to stop whenever you feel like you have learned enough.

Level 1: fun facts.

These quick fun facts are your best bet to make it seem like you actually know something about the game…

The Patriots going to their 11th Super Bowl 10th with Brady is like a scene straight out of a scary movie. The way they have hunted every single team in the NFL for all these years, makes it clear why everyone is scared of them. This last match for the AFC Championship game, featured two of the four best offenses in the NFL, one led by the old undisputed g.o.a.t and the other led by the new baby g.o.a.t. It was a fight for present, but most importantly future dominance. Everyone was betting on the young gun and this new…

The San Antonio Spurs started the season red hot but quickly self-extinguished. The offense could not score and the defense could not transition. The team could only win if the Super Stars balled out and there was no communication, resulting in some of the teams most embarrassing losses in 21 years. Suddenly like a Christmas miracle in December everything changed and now the Spurs are back to their old successful ways. Keeping the essence while catching up with the times, the Spurs are officially rolling.

  • 3-point shooting has improved drastically; short game and mid-range is still strong and free throw percentage made has been key. Coach Pop fought tooth and nail to not give in to this new brand of purely perimeter shot Basketball in which we live in. Like the great coach he is, Pop gave up the fight and joined in while still making it his own- it has payed off. The Spurs have some legit shooters: Davis Bertans is ranked #1 in 3-point shooting with .496% made and Rudy Gay is #6 with .468. Against Minnesota on Dec. 21 the Spurs made…

Patrick Mahomes is a brand new step on the athlete evolution ladder and we are not quite sure how to digest it. We have seen great Football players and great Quarterbacks for many years now, but never anyone quite like Mahomes. Randall Cunningham and Micheal Vick shocked us with their ability to run, but were never regarded as great passers, just strong sloppy arms. Then Brett Favre came into the league and amazed everyone with his ability to make things out of nothing. Favre did not do pre-snap reads or watch film, he just counted on his talented arm and…

Let us flash back to a very much eventful 2017 NBA season.

  • Markelle Fultz was the first pick of the draft to the 76rs.
  • CP3 and James Harden seemed unstoppable for Huston
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greek Freak) dunked over 6'6 feet tall Tim Hardaway Jr.
  • Celtics top free-agent signing Kyrie Irving is in and out of the line up and Gordon Hayward is out the full season but somehow the Celtics have an amazing season with their young players — and we all find out very quickly that Jayson Tatum is the next Kobe.
  • Golden State wins again and no one…

This article started with the premise of writing about the 3 male cheerleaders in the NFL. I thought it was interesting and it held a great variety of ideas and opinions from many sides, so I researched. After a whole day of research I came to a conclusion that morphed my original idea. The conclusion I came to was that 3 male cheerleaders in the NFL wasn’t the story I needed to write just yet. Where I needed to begin is with NFL cheerleading itself, and the underlying issues with our society and the objectification of women. I never in…

Surprises

Cleveland Browns

I cannot believe I am writing something positive about the always trash Browns. All the history you need to know about the Browns is that they have won 4 games in 3 years, and they have started about 29 different quarterbacks in 18 years; very sad. But this year looks very, and I mean VERY, different. It all comes down to one thing and one thing only… they have so much damn talent everywhere.

They have been building for a very long time and finally feels like after a million years, the stars have aligned for the Cleveland…
