The “Left” Race to the White House

As the race for the White House draws closer, the heat of primaries can certainly be felt in the social media. If i was a United States citizen, for sure i will subscribe myself as a liberal democrat. Who i chose in the democrat primaries, is a different question,a question which i am not sure i have the answer for.

Ideologically speaking, i have to concede Bernie Sanders campaign is truly aspiring, its a total revolution to the strongest capitalist state. He successfully portray himself as the man of the people and equality for all means equality for women. He made a strong argument, and so does his supporters that to support a feminist agenda you do not need to be in heels.

Bernie Sanders and his supporters portray his strongest opponent as an elitist, someone that does not understand female and class struggle as a whole. Watching the campaign trail you can also see Hillary being backed by big companies, that you begin to doubt her liberal agenda’s as a democrat. These are facts for which i also began to question my support toward the only reasonable female candidate in the race.

Believing in such ideas, i realized being married to power and gaining support of big companies is the only way a women like Hillary can gain enough power to even have a chance to win elections. Women in politics in most countries have been people of dynasties, married into power, rich or become sensational enough to become celebrities, because that is the only way they have enough fame to win votes.

Counting both factors as something that weighs down my support to Hillary Clinton I’ve recently found myself being sexist. I disregard the fact she has more experience as anyone else running for the 2016 race as past Senator, Mayor, first lady, and secretary of state for being idealist. She may only portray foreign policies issue during the debate, but that’s a strategy in itself to look different and have an identity. She chose to be seen as a powerful and experienced secretary of state, because if she talks of her experience in domestic affairs we are all going to assume it’s Bill doing the work or we will focus the discourse on her position as a “wife”.

She was around as chief task force when Bill Clinton tried to pass the Universal Healthcare Plan in 1993, and around the second time as First Secretary when Obama tried to pass it under his administration. She knows how shitty the House is when it comes to passing liberal proposals, and there is a minimum chance Democrat can nominate both Senate and House during the next presidency. Learning from Obama’s administration, politics require compromise and to reach progress you need to know what to compromise. I don’t think Bernie has that, or if he does he will likely loose his strong ideological base.

The US is not going to have a socialist revolution, the more we shout liberal change with no compromise, the stronger the stupid yet strategic rhetoric’s will be thrown out by Republican politicians to gain votes for their side. Hillary is not going to give you $15/hour salary, free university tuition. But inherently she supports the idea of minimizing the gap and eliminating student debt. I would like to have faith she has a plan, since she’s been around long enough to maneuver her way up to power.

Bernie is a strong candidate, i applaud him for running and attacking US inequality problems for citizens to see and react. But by the end of this writing, I’ve regain my faith to choose a female candidate for the Democrat, because the rhetoric can be flipped Upholding women’s rights and female agenda is the way to bring about equality. It’s a chicken and egg problem, and i’m betting on the hen.
