The summary here is more effective than many, perhaps even most, professional educators could manage.

The conclusion is a meta one. Most people think they have learned, because they essentially remembering “stock phrases” and complete answers. This includes many academics / professional learners who listen and repeat.

Deep and meaningful (real) learning requires you to break down the subject matter, undertake active transposition, and apply in a new context.

As you say, we are more effective at this when we experience emotion, repeat it regularly and are prepared to risk being “wrong” or made aware there’s more to learn. Great piece!

I’m adding it to our reading list at CATALN; you might be interested in checking out our own Learning Philosophy, would be great to hear your thoughts
