Notes from IA Summit — Workshops Day 1
While the 2016 IA Summit as a conference officially opens on Friday, May 6th (if you don’t count the opening reception tomorrow night), the pre-conference workshops kicked off the event public activities today.
As I said before, one of the aspects that make IA Summit the unique event it is that there truly is something for everybody, and today was no exception.
We had 7 workshops on offer today, from content strategy to service design, from strategy to hardcore IA, here’s what was on the menu:
- Practical Content Strategy — Scott Kubie & Michael Metts
- Understanding Context — Andrew Hinton
- The Elements of Service Design — Eric Reiss
- How to Filter Information — Karl Fast
- Designing Future-Friendly Content — Carrie Hane & Mike Atherton
- Meaning Modes and Design Structures to Facilitate Them — Marsha Haverty
- Building Relationships: Linked Data and Information Architecture — Duane Degler
Initial feedback from the attendees was great, and it made me somewhat sad to have been busy behind the scenes preparing the stage for tomorrow’s activities. But seeing the sparkle in people’s eyes and hearing them speak about the pain in their brain (from so much learning) is worth all the wrok we’re putting in the event.
Today’s highlights — seeing many old friends arrive and making new ones, helping newcomers feel welcome and finding the time to catch up with Dan Szuc about the future of knowledge work and how to make design truly meaningful and intentional.
