Keeping Your Preschooler Learning This Summer In Singapore

Retaining your children’s interest in school, while keeping them away from modern distractions, is a task on its own. This is why parents are looking for ways to allow their children to continue learning even during summer break. Supplementary education shouldn’t necessarily evolve around a classroom. We list down some ways to keep your preschooler learning during summer break. Who knows? They might find a new interest or hobby.

1. Educational Camp

Preschools in Singapore are very advanced compared to our other neighbours in the ASEAN. If you want your child to get ahead in class, then enrol them in a summer educational programme. Summer educational programmes are more relaxed compared to a traditional classroom set up. Rather than studying multiple subjects at a time, they can focus on a “major”. It can be anything from science, sports, language, creativity, robotics, programming, etc. Summer programmes such as this takes about 2–3 weeks.

2. Sports Camp

Sports camps are always an easy choice because they get to be physical and meet other children with similar interests. Plus, there are so many sports to choose from. There are the favourites such as football, basketball, and swimming and non-traditional ones such as rugby, sailing, and paddle boarding. It’s a great way for your preschooler to burn off all that sugar and caffeine they binge on during summer time. Most importantly, they might find a hobby they’ll wish to pursue further in the future. Summer programmes like these takes about 1–2 weeks and is offered by most preschools.

3. Arts and Crafts Camp

An arts and crafts camp is a great way for your child to explore his/her creativity in a very productive way. It often focuses in different areas such as painting, drawing, or pottery. By working on different mediums, they can develop their painting or drawing skills. It is also good that they get to work on art within a space where there are kids in the same grade as they are. Teachers are professionals who can help hone their skills in the arts. There are some workshops that allow a per-session basis.

4. Language Camp

The great thing about Singapore is that it is composed of different cultures. If want your child to immerse himself/herself in a different language, the perfect time would be during summer. They can practice their language and communication skills in a safe and learning environment. Plus, they also get professional instruction learn a language. Everything from sentence construction and verb conjugation will be taught. Classes like this often take about 12 sessions.

5. Music Camp

Music camps are also a wonderful environment to learn a new musical instrument. You can choose from guitar, piano, drums, violin, singing, and many more. Learning an instrument at such a young age can help fast track these skills further as they grow up. Classes like this depending on the instrument usually run for 6–12 sessions.

Summer is an awesome time for your children to explore all of the things they might not learn from school. When deciding what summer program to choose make sure to ask your child what he/she wants to take up.
