Your weight scale is not telling you the truth. Don’t let it frustrate you.
Are you trying to be fit? Probably you want to drop some weight, look good or you probably don’t know what you want.
Before we can talk about your weight scale, I would like to give you a simple tip just in case you are looking into starting to workout.
You need to be 100% sure on what you want. Some would say “being healthy”. Well, what is that supposed to mean? Be very specific on your goal. You would say: I want to lose 20 pounds in the next 6 months. That is a goal.
Going forward, you will know the reasons why you are sweating. Your mind will know the ultimate goal.
Now, the tool we always go to to check our progress is the weight scale. Your weight scale is an important tool but it’s not accurate enough to give you your body composition and most likely you will be disappointed to notice little change on weight after working out so hard.
You might also have gained weight from your muscle growth. It is very crucial to make measurements on your progress and that number on your weight scale shouldn’t frustrate you.
You would consider a smart scale that gives you more details on your body fat, water, … I don’t trust smart weight scale that much.
I have resorted to more traditional ways:
- Learn to listen to my body. You can progressively feel the change of your body. Just the same way you would feel if you are about to catch a cold.
- Use simple tools like the measure tape to check your waist, hips, legs, arms …
- Use your camera. Sounds funny but a picture will tell you a lot. Take shots in your bathroom. I have seen people taking selfies with mirrors. Take the same selfies but with your shirt off.
- You can also just look in the mirror but you will have hard time tracking your progress.
- Do the measurements very often at least weekly to have an idea of not only the progress you are making but also what you are doing wrong. It is the diet? Can you stick to your diet?
