Yankees Sue Pirates for Last Week’s Loss

The Yankees rolled into Pittsburgh last week expecting a series sweep. Instead, they left with a split, and Managing Partner Hal Steinbrenner is furious.

He filed suit in district court, claiming the Pirates violated one of baseball’s unspoken rules: cellar-dwelling contenders roll over for their division-leading opponents.

The night had started off perfectly with a touching video tribute to former star pitcher Jameson Taillon playing on the center field scoreboard while Taillon threw his warmup tosses.

“The video tribute was moving, and Taillon had a perfect game after the first inning. Everything was as it should be,” Steinbrenner said.

The first sign of trouble came in the second inning when Daniel Vogelbach led off with a home run. After four innings, the Bucs built a 4–0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

“I’m watching it unfold in disbelief. We’re in the thick of a pennant race, and you’re outplaying us? PNC must stand for Pretty Nervy Club. So disrespectful. This is how you treat a guest in your home?” Steinbrenner spat.
