I think the outrage is because the diversity debate amongst most intelligent people is already dead and is now being resurrected using false logic.

We all know girls like different things to boys, that is not the issue. The issue is “why”? If it’s proven to be biological then we can stop right now trying to solve the disparity in employment and salary figures because it would be impossible to change. However if it is social conditioning then we can change the way people are conditioned and have an impact.

Furthermore, this applies to race, disabilities etc.. as well as gender. It is the crux of the conservative debate throughout history that has propelled slavery, women’s rights, gay rights, civil rights in general. If you allow the concept that biology determines intellectual ability then it’s pretty much game over for human rights in the world today.

So the google document is pretty dangerous. It’s actually almost religious because it doesn’t provide any facts to prove its central point. The point that Dare quoted. It’s been puffed out to make it sound balanced but really it’s anything but balanced.

I think people who think this document is ok are the kind of programmers who refuse to start again on a bug. The ones who keep going deeper and deeper trying to make their original code right and end up with mad amounts of spaghetti code that is impossible to deal with. But they are tied to their original vision and can’t let go. They also get a rush in being deep into this problem. They just can’t admit defeat.
