He was able to pique the interest of non-fans with his attractive visage, which increased his popularity on social media.

Timotheé Chalamet had previously acted in several commercials and short films before making his acting debut in 2009 at the age of fifteen which then made his film debut in 2014. After making an appearance in Christopher Nolan’s film Interstellar, Timothée started to draw attention from the public and was eventually called out for roles in other projects.

He experienced a significant increase in popularity during 2017 to 2019 as a result of his roles in Little Woman and Call Me by Your Name, which allowed many people to finally know him for his talents.

Years later, Timothée has been nominated and won numerous awards throughout his career, mostly for his extraordinary performances as an actor. Timothée’s nominations and awards mostly came as a result to his spectacular performance in Call Me by Your Name, Beautiful Boy, and Little Woman where he offers a combination of his charisma and great detail of his character’s characterization. His performances have also earned praise from the critics of the film industry. Here are several of his performances which remarkable enough for the movie industry:

1. Call Me by Your Name (2017)

This movie is one of the movies that made Timothée’s career skyrocket after playing a role in it. Playing as Elio Perlman, Call Me By Your Name tells the story of the character Elio who falls in love with a researcher who is visiting his house. The researcher, Oliver, was assigned to assist Elio’s father in completing his paper as well as researching the city Elio lived in for the purposes of his manuscript.

Themed Romance and Melancholy, this film successfully made the audience feel distressed when Elio's relationship with Oliver had to end because Oliver rejected Elio’s love which led to Oliver leaving and announcing that he will marry a woman.

The audience was amazed by Timothée’s performance in playing the character Elio, especially in the scene that required him to cry for 3 minutes which of course could invite tears from the audience. He managed to perform an emotional scene despite being new to the film industry says a lot about his performances.

2. Beautiful Boy (2018)

This film tells a heartbreaking story of the struggles of a father, David Sheff, and his son, Nicolas Sheff in fighting the drug addiction experienced by Nic. Nic, who was originally a cheerful and outstanding child with many achievements, was involved in drugs because he had to cope with the divorce of his parents when he was a child and a passionate desire to make his parents proud when he was unable to do so. While he struggle with hopelessness, guilt, and the need to recover, he also develops a never-ending harmful addiction pattern.

The father, David Sheff, continues to try to take care of and guide Nic to recover from his addiction even though Nic continues to relapse many times. Beautiful Boy received much praise for their bravery in bringing up controversial topics like drug addiction and how it affects a family. This movie also provides an authentic and compelling portrayal of the drug conflict, which is undoubtedly difficult to pull off, but Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell manage to deliver an astonishing performance in expressing the perfect emotional responses.

In playing the character of Nic, Timothée was able to successfully demonstrate how a child who had used these drugs with astounding accuracy which amazed the audience with his appearance. He successfully portraying Nic’s mood swings and rage episodes which is common symptoms of drug addicts.

3. Little Woman (2019)

In an era where many still think that women need men to succeed, Little Women tells the story of the March sisters namely Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth as they grow up and try to pursue their goals. The March sisters, particularly Jo, fight to demonstrate that women are not only capable of being excellent mothers but as well as being unrestricted in the pursuit of their dreams. She wants to break the stigma that a woman’s nature is only to be a good mother and wife.

Timothée portrays Laurie, a close friend of the March sisters, particularly Jo, who later develops romantic feelings for Jo. Fans find their complex relationship pretty amazing, especially the way Laurie’s character conveys his love for Jo. (I definitely bawled myself while watching the confession arc!!) Devastated by the rejection he received from Jo, Laurie began to occupy himself by going to Paris precisely at the Louvre Museum. That’s where he reunited with one of the March sisters, Amy, who was on vacation there with her aunt. Meeting with Amy keeps Laurie entertained which led to Laurie’s feelings for Amy grow. Although it took a long time to confirm her feelings, Laurie finally decided to marry Amy and get a happy ending for him.

Timothée Chalamet’s character Laurie manages to move the audience’s heart through Laurie’s character development where he presents an extravagant sense of complexity in Laurie’s character and his ability to capture the precise emotion naturally. He’s truly a national treasure to the film industry (and to my heart obviously)

4. The King (2019)

The film tells about Hal, a reckless and hesitant prince who, following the death of his father, gains the throne of England and becomes King Henry V. While claiming the throne, Hal must deal with betrayal, battle, and political intrigue which then lead to the discovery of his true identity to be a wise king to his kingdom.

Chalamet’s portrayal of Hal successfully conveys the character’s internal conflict and development, highlighting his moral and political conflicts in the face of the harsh reality of ancient politics and combat. With thorough depictions of the character ‘Hal’ Chalamet was able to explore Hal’s characters well, making him one of the main highlights of the film.

The King gained much attention and praise due to Chalamet’s nuanced portrayal, which gives the character more depth and complexity. While this movie itself is controversial because many historians doubts its credibility, Timothée’s performance is undoubtedly spectacular.

5. Dune: Part One (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024)

The film tells the story of Paul Atreides, a young man from the desert planet Arrakis who is assigned to control a valuable resource, ‘spice’, on a planet called Caladan. When his father, Duke Leto Atreides, was killed in a betrayal committed by Harkonnen’s troops, Paul had to face a great challenge in maintaining his family’s inheritance even though he was still devastated by his father’s death. On his way to avenge the Harkonnen army for the death of his father, Paul finds his great destiny and becomes the center of a struggle between the forces competing to control the resources found in Arrakis.

In Dune: Part two, after uniting with the Fremen to fight the Harkonnen troops, Paul finds himself to be in love with one of the Fremens named Chani played by Zendaya. Paul desires to become one of the fremen, not as the Duke of Atreides but rather as a man whose main goal is to defeat the Harkonnen. He adopted a variety of approaches to become one with the Fremen, such as riding sandworms and learning their language. Paul starts his quest to exact revenge on the Harkonnen with his expectant mother, Chani, and the Fremen by his side.

Timothée managed to play a character who underwent a drastic change in the film, which was previously considered to be naive besides his father to being a strong-willed leader in fighting Harkonnen’s troops. He received much praise due to the new face he’s offering in this movie, he’s able to portray the fierce in Paul’s characteristics whereas he has never done such characteristics in his previous projects. (and him in a fremen’s stillsuit?? SMASH!)

Also, according to Comic Book Resources, following the success of the second movie of Dune, the third movie is now in the works, still with Timothée as one of the main characters in the movie. The third film will contain additional surprises as it will continue to follow Paul’s path of accepting his destiny as Messiah.

Conclusion

In my personal opinion, Chalamet is undoubtedly a talented actor proven by his works in his projects. His performance is gradually improving over time, from movie to movie, and he bravely ventures to new genres of characters to try which made him a promising actor for you to start looking for.

My personal favorite of his films is Beautiful Boy and Dune where he bravely took the role whereas the character itself has a complex depth that may be hard for other actors to grasp but he managed to capture the accurate portrayal of the characters while paying much attention to bits by bits detail of his character. While being in awe of his extraordinary acting ability, you may also take pleasure in the stunning charisma he radiates and which could flow across your screen.

I mean, look at this face oh my! He serve VISUAL not just visual and of course great talents in acting. So there’s no reason to doubt him being the great actor in the past 3 years. He ate.
