Dear Digital Trends

Hire Me Please!

Hey Digital Trends team!

My name is Alec. I’m a visual creative currently living in Portland. I moved here not too long ago and am currently looking for a job. I noticed you were hiring on your website for a few positions in Portland. I’ve applied there, but thought I’d also send you this communication showing who I am more in depth. This will also give you a better idea of my writing style.

I’ve been following technology for as long as I can remember. My dad has his own company designing printed circuit boards. Needless to say, I was constantly surrounded with technology from a young age. That led into following blogs, making YouTube videos and writing about technology.

I’d have to say the main thing I love about technology is it’s evolution. The industry is constantly changing, and I’m always learning. I don’t know everything about technology, and I don’t think I ever will. Just when I think I might, a new type of technology rises up.

I truly believe technology pushes the human race forward

Here are a few more facts about me:

  • I’m a passionate, hard worker who strives to create an amazing product
  • I love communicating with people
  • Solving puzzles and handling problems is like second nature to me
  • Right now, I’m extremely interested in AI & VR
  • Whenever I’m not working, I’m taking photos, writing or learning how to code on various fronts (Currently these include iOS app development, iOS app design and Alexa skills)
  • I’m goal oriented and am always setting new ones
  • Twin Peaks is my favorite show and I will talk your ear off (if you let me)

I know that every interview has a set of standard questions. Here are my answers to some of those, simply so you’re aware of who I am and what you can expect from me.

Why would I make a good addition to Digital Trends?

Simply put, I’m a hard working individual who creates exceptional products. Whether that’s in writing, video production or photography, I’m always pushing myself to be the best.

I like being apart of teams. I can work alone, but I find that when I’m surrounded with others that are working towards the same goal, the energy is much better and I’m more productive. That’s just the truth.

What are some special skills I can bring to the table at Digital Trends?

My problem solving skills, communication skills and photography experience.

I think solving puzzles and finding a handling to a problem is an interesting and fun process. By the end of it, I feel a sense of accomplishment. Problems naturally come up in life, especially when you’re a creative. I’ve noticed that when I’m writing or shooting, I can quickly overcome problems. I’m just in complete control and nothing can really go wrong.

What’s my education experience?

I graduated from high school in 2014. Since then, I’ve had a few jobs. One was working the coffee bar in the Apple Campus, another was managing social media for various schools throughout the country.

I don’t have a college education. Unless you’re looking to be a doctor, lawyer or anything high tier like that, it’s useless (for me) to go to college. Especially for a creative field. I know plenty of people who have gone to film school or photography school, and I’ve done more projects and have had more hands on experience than they have. Especially in those two fields, that’s how you get better.

I’m not saying I know everything, I definitely don’t. I just prefer learning in a different way. Every time I don’t know something, I can find it on Google. That’s the beauty of technology, it’s completely changing the educational system and making people think twice about going to school.

How many years of experience do I have with writing?

I’ve been writing on various personal blogs for the past 5 or 6 years. It’s funny, I actually stumbled across one of my first blogs. The URL was, which stood for nothing but tech. I was too young and ignorant when I created it to realize that people would start calling it N-Bitch. Needless to say, I found that hilarious and I still laugh about it.

Anyways, I stumbled across it and realized how horrible my writing was. Granted, I was a 15 year old kid, but still. It goes to show just how far I’ve come and how much I’ve learned in writing. I still have a lot to learn, which I’m very excited for.

My most recent writing project is this Medium publication, Out of The Past. My dad gave me a list of movies to watch, and I started writing about them. I dive into the story structure, cinematography, score, etc… It’s a fun side project, but unfortunately I’ve been too busy to watch movies, so it’s been a little since I’ve written on it.

If I was hired, what position would I feel most comfortable in? Which position wouldn’t be comfortable?

As a writer, I’d feel most comfortable writing about gadgets and AI. I’m very interested in home technology and the power of controlling everything in your home from a single source. My dream is to wake up in my apartment, the lights in the kitchen on, the water to make my coffee is already heated, My thermostat is set at the appropriate temperature, and my car is warmed up waiting for me. I’m getting closer to that dream, but the technology is already here.

Of course, I’m willing to start out at another position and work my way up to that.

I’m the least competent with cars and political science. I don’t think I have enough prior experience in either to write an educated piece.

So, what now?

Well, that’s ultimately up to you! I’d like to be able to communicate with one of the members of your team and setup an interview. I think I’d be a great addition to your team, and I hope you think so too.

Feel free to reach out to me over email and we can setup a time.

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to see what’s to come of this.
