With the entire world working from home and using Zoom as their primary means of communication, you may find yourself on a call with someone speaking a different language.

If this sounds familiar to you I’m happy to share an easy way to translate Zoom messages. This will let you better contribute to the meeting and understand what others are saying.

Read on to find out more!

The solution

To easily translate Zoom chats you will need an iPhone or iPad and the Zoom app installed.

Then you want to install the TransKey Chat Translator App from the App Store. This is a free iOS application that has been providing chat translation services for several years and counts over 300,000 users.

TransKey works by integrating directly into Zoom, allowing you to translate messages you send and receive. This is done through the TransKey Keyboard which you will need to set up after downloading the application.

The first time you open TransKey you will be guided through the simple process of installing their Keyboard:

1. Click the button to open your Settings (wait a second after the Settings app opens for your screen to look like this):

Tap the “Take Me There” after opening TransKey and wait for the Settings screen to appear

2. Click “Keyboards” then enable TransKey and enable “Allow Full Access” (the app needs this to translate messages):

Tap “Keyboards” and then turn on both “TransKey” and “Allow Full Access”, clicking “Allow” in the popup so that the TransKey app can translate messages

3. Go back to the TransKey app to complete your installation.

You will then be guided through a series of steps to show you how the app works. This can be helpful to follow since the process will be the same inside Zoom.

How to use TransKey in Zoom

After joining a Zoom session you will be able to translate your chat messages without leaving the app using the TransKey Keyboard.

To open the TransKey Keyboard you need to tap and hold the “globe” icon in the lower-left corner of your phone and then tap TransKey:

Tap and hold the “globe” icon and then tap “TransKey”

To translate messages that you’ve received into your preferred language you will need to tap and hold the message until an option to “Copy” appears. Make sure the entire message is selected before you tap this. Then tap “Translate Copy” in the TransKey Keyboard:

Tap and hold the message you’d like to translate, tap “Copy” in the menu that appears, and finally tap “Translate copy” in TransKey

To translate a message so that everyone else receives it in their language, write your message in your native language, switch to the TransKey Keyboard like before, tap “Translate text”, then “Insert” and finally “Send”.

Type your message in your native language, switch to the TransKey Keyboard, tap “Translate text” followed by “Insert”, and finally “Send”

And that’s it! Remember to switch the language you’re translating into between translating messages you receive and messages you send. If you opted for TransKey Premium you can do this by tapping the arrow icon in-between.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a reply below and someone will help you out.

If you found this Zoom plus TransKey trick helpful, please don’t forget to leave some applause and share with friends who will benefit from it as well.
