What you said about your job as a police officer being very secure until you make ONE mistake really resonated with me.

See, I also had a great career as a designer, worked for big brands and climbed the corporate ladder. I have always been a very loyal team member — proactive, coming up with new ideas, working overtime to make this company I worked for better. It felt so secure!

For many years I wanted to start my own design studio (even while I was studying) but it took me 6 years working for someone else to realise that entrepreneurship is not this scary ride and a “Secure” job position is not as secure as I thought.

When you’re working for someone you may get a month’s notice and you’re out (if they change their mind, if they want to hire someone new, if they want to outsource and are getting rid of in-house designers).

It’s scary and not secure AT ALL. You’ve got zero control over it.

While when you’re an entrepreneur, you can control if you have work or not. Of course there are times when you’re not super busy but if you’re proactive and start looking for work, you’ll find it. And if you don’t have work you know it months in advance. It’s rare that you lose all your clients at once and have no income whatsoever.

You’re in control, always. Nobody’s going to kick you out of your business.

I was laid off once from a job I really loved and a company I felt like home in. I had no control over it and it didn’t matter how much time I spent there and how much love I put into my work for them.

They just needed to get rid of people, that’s all.

That was the day I knew I’m going to start my business and not look at a full-time job as if it was something secure. It never is.

Chose control, give your best and you’ll have success nobody can take from you.
