This ONE Thought May Be Ruining Your Career

Hi! I’m Alesha! I found this excellent article in my email! Check it out.

Believe in yourself first. Believe that you have what you want already, be grateful for it now and you will get it. It works.

This applies to the entertainment industry, but anyone can read and learn from it. I’m with a newsletter with Erica! SHE’s AMAZING.

Let’s talk about one of the most frustrating topics that crosses your mind every single day: MONEY.

Ugh, I know.

You probably label yourself as a “starving artist”.

And I get it.

It’s EXPENSIVE to pursue a career in Hollywood, right?

Headshots, classes, memberships, programs, reels, filming, union initiation and dues, the list goes on and on.

And how on earth are you supposed to pay for all that when you haven’t booked the job that helps you afford it?

Your day job is exactly that — a DAY job. One that doesn’t make you a ton of money because it’s sole purpose is to help you survive and maintain a flexible schedule so you can pursue what you really want.

These are the thoughts I used to have.

And actually, I took them further…

I complained. A lot.

To anyone who would listen.

Until I began studying wealth consciousness.

Because there was only one thing I wanted more than I wanted to complain: to be wealthy.

So I was determined to figure it out.

And I want to share what I learned with you (and what I continue to learn, this is a life-long educational pursuit) — because what I learned helped me triple my income.

There are two pieces that got me out of the “Starving artist” hell:

1. Mindset: What I projected about money

2. Strategy: The actions I was taking regarding money

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but you are a BUSINESS OWNER.

Whether you’re an actor, a director, a writer, or any other creative person, you are your own business.

And even though you’ve heard it before, you’re probably not implementing it.

Being a business owner is not just about marketing — it’s all of the other facets of running a business.

One of the biggest facets of running a business is INVESTING in your business.

I will explain this from a strategic standpoint in a minute, but let me first explain what happens in your mind…

The thing about money, is that wealthy people THINK about money differently than poor people THINK about money.

When you are struggling financially, all of your focus is on LACK.

This is what’s called a Scarcity Mindset.

Everything feels scarce — you want to get headshots and join programs, but you have no money.

And you repeat that statement over and over again.

From a Law of Attraction standpoint, you are perpetuating the very circumstance that you don’t want.

Wealthy people don’t do this.

Wealthy people believe that money flows to them in expected and unexpected ways. They always think from a place of abundance.

You may be like, “That’s great, Erica, but they can do that because they have a lot of money!”

That’s actually not the case.

They do that BEFORE they have all the money.

When you THINK abundance, that is what you attract.

You don’t attract what you want, you attract what you are.

The reason you don’t attract what you want, is because you usually focus on the lack of the thing you want, rather than on the thing you want.

So if you want more money, most of your daily thoughts are about not having money. Instead of thinking and living as if you already have it.

Now this leads into the STRATEGY.

Think about Starbucks — how did they start?

If you wanted to start a coffee shop, how would you pay for the rent, the equipment, the employees, and the coffee, if you don’t already have a successful coffee shop?

You invest.

You don’t complain that you’re broke. You don’t ask the commercial landlord to give you a scholarship to pay the rent.

You take out a loan or a line of credit, get investors, get the financial help you need to invest.

Why invest?

Because when you invest, you get the opportunity to make a return on your investment.

Let’s say it costs $20,000 to open your dream coffee shop.

In the first 2 years, you should make much more than $20,000, therefore, giving you a return on your investment.

Your Hollywood career is exactly the same. Because it’s also a business.

If you never invest in the things you need, you’ll never get where you want to be.

Combining these two elements can be very powerful in terms of your wealth:

Choosing to believe in abundance, and choosing to invest in your career.

Those two things will lead to wealth.

I know this email was crazy long, so if you’re still here, here’s an exciting thing you can do:

Calculate the amount of money you will make from 1 to 5 Hollywood dream jobs.

For example, if you’re an actor and you book a guest star, you could make anywhere between $3500 and $20,000.

If you’re a director, you could make $50,000 on an episode of TV.

If you’re a writer, you could get $30,000 for one episodic script in addition to the weekly salary of being in the writer’s room.

Now, subtract the cost of what you want to invest in from what you could make.

So let’s say you get new headshots for $700, and then you book a guest star for $3500. That’s a $2800 return on your investment.

I had one client make a $21,500 return on his investment in my program after booking a job.

Is that worth it to you?

Stop letting your money fears hold you back.

Start thinking like a business owner.

I can tell you from experience, it is SO MUCH MORE FUN to do this work and see the money flow in, than playing the victim and complaining every day, not getting anywhere.

You can keep going the way you’re going, complaining about not having any money, and never really getting anywhere in your career.

OR, you can invest in the things you need to get you where you want to be, by leveraging a credit card, asking friends/family for help, taking out a loan, or any other creative solution. Chrissy Metz, star of This Is Us, took out a personal loan when she needed headshots and didn’t have the money.

If you do more of the same, you’ll get more of the same.

Do something different. Invest in yourself. Because your dream is worth it.

What do you think about this? If I told my friends this, they would think it’s a bunch of yahoo. But this is very true. I’ve manifested cool things in my life by:

Believe in yourself first. Believe that you have what you want already, be grateful for it now and you will get it. It works.

Hello There! I’ve been involved in different businesses in several different capacities from being ceo, coo, co-founder, and more. I’ve learned so much from creating businesses, and I look forward to all the learning experiences I will have from starting new ventures.

With one business I was involved with, we made it possible to install a little device with customized hardware and a SaaS solution implemented to the router, the business owner was able see live data about social media info collected.

With another company, we had professional internet marketing company that focus on digital marketing campaigns, services and jobs such as SEO, PPC, Online Reputation Management, and social media marketing.

With EYT, I oversaw day-to-day operations and keeping the CEO apprised of significant events;Yes I actually talk with my business partner on a daily basis. I created operations strategy and policies; Communicated strategy and policy to employees and interns; Fostering employee alignment with corporate goals; and overseeing human resource management. I also delegate tasks to my team.

My current project is Bones’ Custom Guitar. We create custom guitars for musicians with imported wood. No one Bones’ guitar is the same. We also repair guitars. Jared, my band mate came up with the idea and foundation for Bones’.

Long story cut short. I’ve been playing gigs and booking shoots. My go to guitar, Blu Blu broke during this. When I went to get it repaired in Indy getting it fixed cost way more than the actual cost of the guitar.

It didn’t seem right. After talking with other musicians in Indianapolis, Chicago, Nashville and other cities for second opinions they thought the shop was trying to pull a fast one. So our mission is to offer fair prices for repairs and custom guitars for fellow musicians.

We are both Indy & LA based.

My biggest project currently? I’m also involved in entertainment as an actress, founder, and producer. We are currently producing 2 film projects with one of them having 1 million in financing.
