You should definitely plan ahead, but you should not live the optimal way “all the time”. You cannot plan or control everything, that way lies frustration and control issues.
You need to leave yourself and others around you some “discovery” time to appreciate things around you. Things you didn’t plan for and that will surprise you and give you new perspective you didn’t have before.
Heck, I could play Skyrim or Fallout the optimal way and finish them in just a few days. But I wouldn’t have discovered all the little gems that are in there when I go on a walkabout.
Same goes for life. I have a direction planned out in life, but it’s fluid.
