Before the Attack

CCharles Bishop — a 15-year-old white male — from Palm Harbor, Florida was dropped off for a two-hour flight lesson at Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport.

While performing pre-flight procedures, Charles took off at 4:50 P.M. — without his flight instructor’s permission.

An air traffic controller noticed Charles’s plane, who sent a Coast Guard helicopter to stop him. The North American Aerospace Defense Command also had two F-15 combat jets flying to intercept the Cessna.

But both actions had little effect — and what happened next was entirely unexpected.

After ignoring the helicopter, Charles proceeded to crash his single-engine Cessna into the 40-story Bank of America Building — instantly killing him. Luckily, the crash didn’t kill anybody else, even though…
