Bernie’s Revolution

Nice essay. By staying focussed on a problem we all face (I take the billionaire-class’s disproportional wealth to be a problem for them, too), Sanders practices the message of unity Obama preached. Though talk about unity was (and still is) important—a deeply divided Congress managed to shut down the country not long ago—, few things actually bring us together like a common challenge. And, were we to imagine political conversation as talk about how to make things better for all of us, I suspect many more people would be willing to join in. Sander’s sort of unity has small-scale ethical implications, too: we treat people better when we think of them as sharing our obstacles.
