In the articles “Lakers from the Outside: The Kobe Issue” written by Baxter Holmes and “Arkansas QB Brandon Allen’s Truck Destroyed in Apparent Arson” written by Tyler Conway, both compare how sometimes people don’t know when it’s time to hang up the towel. This happens to many famous athletes because of their love for the game. Their love for the game sparks their drive to keep playing and makes them think they are just as good as they used to be. The first comparison that I have made between these two pieces is that Kobe keeps making the same mistake of going back into the game of basketball after repeatedly getting injured. Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game. He has had multiple season ending injuries in the past few years because of nothing but old age. Even at the old age of 38 which is very old for any professional sport, he still is considered one of the greats. But it’s time for Kobe to start thinking about his future because he has already made plenty enough money to live a very prestigious life. If he continues to play the game, then once hes old he’s not going to be able to do anything. Brandon Allen keeps making the mistake of playing football after repeatedly blowing football games. Brandon Allen is the quarterback for the University of Arkansas football team and has been for 3 years now. I along with the rest of the state of Arkansas am not sure as to what coach Brett Beilema sees in him. He is very notorious choking under high pressure situations and has also ruined his brothers chance of ever seeing the field because of how bad he has represented his name. Many people have commented towards Kobe about him hanging up the towel because he’s just been there too long and doesn’t really have much more that he could physically accomplish. Many people have also made comments about Brandon and even going to the extent of making an example out of setting his truck on fire while it was in his driveway and send it rolling it into a ditch. Another comparison is that Kobe’s 20-year contract with the Lakers, which is the longest in history, is going to be up and he’d go out with a bang. Brandon Allen has started as a sophomore up until his senior season which is an incredible accomplishment, especially at a SEC school. Kobe hasn’t said anything about retiring or starting a new contract yet and Brandon also hasn’t gotten any word of possibly getting drafted into the NFL which is highly unlikely, but not impossible for someone of his skill level. The last comparison that I can make is that Kobe will most likely keep his decision a secret until the time comes for him to make it. Brandon Allen didn’t publically have anything to say about the fire and kept it to himself. Kobe wants to keep it to himself because its going to be a pretty big deal of whichever he decides to do and Brandon Allen kept to himself because it was embarrassing for him to get his truck burned.
