More than an X

You have an opportunity to take action on Thursday — join me and #ShineALightOnSlavery on Thursday, Feb. 23 by posting your picture with the X on your hand #enditmovement

END IT MOVEMENT is a coalition of the leading organizations in the world in the fight for FREEDOM — like International Justice Mission, A21 and The Salvation Army to name a few. Each of the Coalition Partners are doing the work, on the ground, everyday, to bring AWARENESS, PREVENTION, RESCUE, and RESTORATION. The END IT MOVEMENT champions these organizations — helping turn awareness into action!

You’re one person and that’s enough! You have a voice online. You have the power to engage with your online community.

A21, As Our Own, Bombay Teen Challenge, ECPAT, The Exodus Road, Free the Slaves, Hagar, Hope for Justice, International Justice Mission, Love 146, Made in a Free World, Not for Sale, Polaris, The Salvation Army, World Relief, World Vision

This is yet another example of the power of social media.

3 things I learned from Dressember that can help you on Thursday

1. You have a conversation starter — a red X on your hand — to talk about human trafficking.

Nice Person: “What’s that on your hand?”
Alexa: “Today I wanted to bring awareness to modern day slavery, because many people don’t know about it.”
Nice Person: “Wow. I don’t know much about human trafficking.”

2. If people are interested in learning more human trafficking or modern day slavery, you could share a fact:

Human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal industry and it affects every nation.
Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern-day slavery.

Or you can refer them to to learn more!

3. Fear was the one thing that almost held me back from participating in Dressember

The fear that people would not be interested in what I was talking about. My friends proved me wrong — they did care and they were interested, because it’s bigger than a dress. They helped me reach my first fundraising goal of $320 in 3 days. By the end of the campaign, we had raised $2,236 to end human trafficking!

I hope that fear does not hold you back from participating in the #enditmovement on Thursday.

Money raised during Dressember 2016 supports the work of International Justice Mission, and A21, two human rights organizations that work to rescue and restore victims of slavery, sexual exploitation, and violent oppression.
