I have a hard time balancing this with my son. Mostly because he IS the bees knees to me but I live in reality and I know to a large portion of the population kids like him are seen as supremely irritating. He will be ten in a few days and I find I’m having to really temper my praise with reality because he has problems with social cues; reading people…so he was really confused for a long time when people would get mad at him when he tried to tell them a story (this can literally go on for hours. And I always listened, so that is what he was prepared for …but I listened because I know he won’t see me as the alpha and omega for long. Soon enough he won’t want to tell me his stories and my heart will break).

It’s hard having to be the one who braces your kid for reality.
