I’ve had this phrase set on repeat for years now. Maybe you’ll have more luck than I have.

It’s such a simple tenet. It exists in some form in every major religion. It is an idea that could actually function as the catalyst of global unity.

And yet, a significant portion of the population laughs at it. People treat the words like some trick intended to manipulate them.

The whole thing makes me sick. Like, physically sick.

I’m learning that we really do live in a “nice guys finish last” world. Last week, I actually found myself coaching my sweet, almost overly empathetic little boy to “be kind…in life, don’t cut in line, but don’t ever give your spot away either.”

As in, be nice but be wary because anyone who can screw you over probably will.

Not a lesson I ever wanted to have to teach.
