Fighting coronavirus together

Coronavirus is a challenge for the global economy, our health care system, and our society at large. Cities have been isolated, and public events are canceled. The new decade has not even really started yet, and we are already facing a kind of threat we have last been confronted with in 2004 (SARS-pandemic).

How can we, as a globalized population, face this threat and preserve health and wealth? As a solution provider, we solve users’ and clients’ problems to maximize their economic goals on a daily basis. But how can we tackle a global challenge of this dimension that is threatening people’s lives?

German healthcare minister Jens Spahn provided the answer recently: “together”. The disease is testing the solidarity of each member of our society. Every one of us is asked to contribute to the solution, e.g., by giving up a piece of daily comfort and putting more effort into staying healthy. Not only out of personal interest but to protect members of the society who are highly threatened by the coronavirus, such as old and ill people.

We, as a design studio for digital products, want to contribute with Coronika. Coronika is a free smartphone app that functions as a diary for public health.

Coronika diary overview

Log people you meet, places you visit, and remember potential contacts in case of an infection. This information is of utmost importance for health authorities enabling them to reconstruct paths of infection and inform people at risk.

Besides, Coronika reminds you to wash your hands regularly and provides further hygiene tips. The app has been translated into 13 languages to provide a transnational solution for all of us.

Coronika is our contribution. It is and will be free — forever. It does not track or sell any of your data. All information is stored locally on your device and cannot be accessed by anyone except yourself. We all have the power to fight the virus, so let us start our diaries, follow the easy practice of good hygiene. In times like these our social time may take a small toll, but together we can prevent a more significant crisis and restore normality. Thanks to the health innovation hub of the federal ministry of health in Germany that is supporting us and to all the volunteers who helped us to translate the application.

We are currently working on new features, such as a daily mood and health barometer. Download Coronika for free and try the app. Available now Google Play Store, Apple App Store is following.

You find further information on our project website.
