4 Things You Need To Know About Best Buy Surveillance Systems

I recently suspected my wallet being stolen while browsing in a Best Buy store and so I return to the scene of the crime and inquired about seeing their surveillance footage. Here is what I learned in the process…
1. PLACEMENT & QUALITY
Despite them being tactically placed to cover every square inch of the store, Best Buy claims that their surveillance system is not able to capture clear images. Nobody would be able to recognize the facial features of a thief if caught on video.
2.FOCUS
Cameras are set up with the main purpose to constantly capture specific sections and/or valuable merchandise in the store instead of valued visitors (including thieves).
3.PRIVACY AND SECURITY
Camera footage cannot be released to customers — only after a police report is submitted can the recording be released to the proper authorities for further investigation.
4.SPORTS FISHING (CAUGHT AND LET GO)
In a single incident, thousands of dollars can be stolen from Best Buy with the perpetrators caught on camera, however, even with substantial evidence, this is still not enough to put the thieves away. Using expensive merchandise as bait and then letting perps go after they take the bait…easy much?
In the end, the most I could do is file an incident report with the facility’s security desk and was kindly advised to go to the local police office to file a statement. Best Buy was very professional and kind about addressing my concerns and inquiries, however, not much was done to retrieve my wallet… What’s your take?
