ChatGPT vs Bard

As a long-time ChatGPT user, I was excited when Google announced that its AI chatbot Bard was also finally launching in Germany. My first initial tests led to rather disappointing results. Bard’s answers didn’t reach the high standards set by ChatGPT. Meanwhile, many generative AI users noticed a decline in the quality of ChatGPT’s answers in the last weeks. ChatGPT seemed to somehow get dumber. I decided to do a deep dive and give both AIs 11 times the exact same prompts for a fair comparison. Here are my results:

2. Human-like Highschool Homework

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! For my English homework in highschool I have to write a summary of the first chapter of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Write an excellent summary of the first chapter which will guarantee me an A. Write it as human-like as possible so my teacher will not consider it was written by an AI.

ChatGPT answer:

Hello there! Of course, I’d be more than happy to help you with your Romeo and Juliet summary. Let’s craft an engaging and human-like summary that will surely impress your teacher:

Title: Romeo and Juliet — Act 1, Prologue and Scene 1

Summary:

In the first chapter of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet,” we are introduced to the feud between two powerful families of Verona — the Montagues and the Capulets. The Prologue sets the stage, revealing the deep-rooted enmity that has existed between these families for years, which serves as the backdrop for the ill-fated love story that follows.

The play opens with a lively street brawl between servants of the Montague and Capulet households, showcasing the extent of their mutual animosity. The citizens of Verona are also drawn into the fray, illustrating how this feud has affected the entire city. The Prince of Verona, appalled by the continuous violence, sternly warns both families that any further disturbances will be met with severe consequences.

Amidst this turmoil, we meet Romeo, the young and melancholic son of Lord Montague. Troubled by unrequited love, he confides in his cousin Benvolio, who endeavors to lift his spirits. Benvolio suggests that Romeo should forget about his unattainable love and seek other beauties that exist beyond his current infatuation.

Later, we are introduced to Juliet, the beautiful and sheltered daughter of Lord Capulet. Her parents, not yet aware of her burgeoning womanhood, discuss a potential marriage proposal from Count Paris, a noble suitor. The topic of marriage sets in motion the plans for a grand masquerade ball to be hosted by the Capulets, where Paris can woo Juliet and possibly secure their betrothal.

Intrigued by the prospect of the ball, Romeo and his friends decide to attend in disguise, hoping to catch a glimpse of Rosaline, the object of Romeo’s unrequited affection. Little do they know that this decision will set in motion a chain of events that will alter the course of their lives forever.

As the chapter comes to a close, we are left with a sense of impending fate, as the stars seem to align for these star-crossed lovers. The stage is set for the intertwining of destinies, as Romeo and Juliet’s paths unknowingly draw closer, poised on the edge of a love that will transcend their families’ bitter feud.

Shakespeare’s masterful storytelling unfolds in this first chapter, enticing us with themes of love, fate, and societal conflict, leaving us eager to embark on the heart-wrenching journey that lies ahead.

Remember to add your own personal touch and style when writing the summary, and I’m sure you’ll impress your teacher with your excellent work! Good luck with your homework, and feel free to reach out if you need any more assistance.

Hi Bard! For my English homework in highschool I have to write a summary of the first chapter of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Write an excellent summary of the first chapter which will guarantee me an A. Write it as humanlike as possible so my teacher will not consider it was written by an AI.

Bard answer:
Sure, I can help you with that. Here is an excellent summary of the first chapter of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”:

The Chorus

The play opens with a Chorus, which introduces the two feuding families of Verona: the Montagues and the Capulets. The Chorus describes the long-standing hatred between the families, and how it has led to violence and bloodshed. The Chorus then sets the scene for the play, which will take place at a feast being held at Capulet’s house.

Sampson and Gregory

The first scene of the play introduces us to two servants of the Capulet family, Sampson and Gregory. The two men are walking through the streets of Verona when they encounter two servants of the Montague family. The servants begin to taunt each other, and a fight breaks out. Benvolio, Romeo’s friend, tries to break up the fight, but Tybalt, Capulet’s nephew, arrives and draws his sword. The Prince of Verona arrives and intervenes, threatening to banish any further troublemakers.

Romeo and Benvolio

Romeo enters the scene, and Benvolio tells him about the fight. Romeo is upset, as he is in love with Rosaline, a Capulet. Benvolio tries to cheer Romeo up, but Romeo is determined to see Rosaline at the Capulet feast.

Romeo at the Feast

Romeo arrives at the feast, disguised as a Capulet. He sees Juliet, Capulet’s daughter, and is immediately smitten. The two young people meet and fall in love. However, their love is forbidden, as they are from two feuding families.

The End of the Chapter

The chapter ends with Romeo and Juliet declaring their love for each other. They agree to be married, and Juliet asks her nurse to help her arrange the marriage.

Analysis

The first chapter of “Romeo and Juliet” introduces the main characters and the conflict that will drive the play. The chapter also establishes the themes of love, hate, and fate. The play is a tragedy, and the audience knows from the beginning that the love between Romeo and Juliet is doomed. However, the first chapter also shows the power of love, and how it can overcome even the strongest of hatreds.

I hope this summary is helpful. I have tried to write it in a human-like way, so that your teacher will not think it was written by an AI. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

5. Movie Critic

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! Act as a movie critic. You will develop an engaging and creative movie review. You can cover topics like plot, themes and tone, acting and characters, direction, score, cinematography, production design, special effects, editing, pace, dialogue. The most important aspect though is to emphasize how the movie has made you feel, and what has really resonated with you. You can also feel free to be critical of the movie. Avoid any plot spoilers in your review. I need you to write a movie review for the movie Inception. Your review has to be as close as possible to 500 words.

ChatGPT answer:

Inception (2010) — A Mind-Bending Cinematic Masterpiece

Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” is a mind-bending journey that delves deep into the recesses of the human mind, leaving audiences questioning their own reality long after the credits have rolled. It is a rare gem that melds brilliant storytelling, impeccable acting, awe-inspiring visual effects, and a hauntingly beautiful score to create an immersive experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional cinema.

At its core, “Inception” explores the power of dreams, ideas, and memories and how they shape our perception of reality. The plot, akin to an intricately woven puzzle, follows Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio), a skilled thief in the clandestine world of corporate espionage, who has the unique ability to enter people’s dreams and extract their deepest secrets. However, when he’s presented with an offer to perform the impossible act of “inception” — planting an idea into someone’s mind — Cobb finds himself questioning his own sanity as the lines between dream and reality blur.

The movie’s theme of exploring the depths of the subconscious mind is captivating, and it propels the narrative forward with an inexorable force. The film toys with the notion of reality, and its multi-layered structure leaves the audience spellbound, piecing together the intricacies of the plot like a puzzle, only to be astounded by the final revelation. The themes of guilt, redemption, and the profound human desire for connection resonate deeply, adding an emotional weight to the already gripping storyline.

The performances in “Inception” are nothing short of extraordinary. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers a tour de force as Dom Cobb, showcasing a raw vulnerability beneath his stoic exterior. His chemistry with Marion Cotillard, who portrays his enigmatic wife Mal, is palpable and heightens the emotional stakes. The ensemble cast, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy, each bring unique nuances to their roles, making every character memorable and essential to the narrative.

Nolan’s direction is nothing short of brilliant. His deft handling of complex dreamscapes and the seamless transitions between them are a testament to his masterful storytelling. The visual effects are groundbreaking, taking the audience on breathtaking journeys through vividly imagined dream worlds that challenge the boundaries of what cinema can achieve. The production design further immerses viewers in these fantastical realms, creating a sense of awe and wonder that lingers long after the film’s conclusion.

The hauntingly evocative score by Hans Zimmer elevates the emotional intensity of the film. Its pulsating rhythms and haunting melodies mirror the characters’ emotional states, further drawing the audience into the surreal world of dreams and ambitions.

Cinematographer Wally Pfister’s work in “Inception” is exemplary, capturing the dizzying dream sequences with stunning precision and creating a visceral experience that perfectly complements the film’s thematic core. The editing, coupled with seamless practical effects, ensures that the film maintains its breakneck pace while never sacrificing emotional depth or character development.

As with any ambitious film, “Inception” is not without its minor flaws. The complexity of the narrative may be challenging for some viewers to follow, and a deeper exploration of certain characters’ backstories could have enhanced the overall impact.

In conclusion, “Inception” is a rare cinematic gem that transcends the boundaries of its genre. It is an audacious exploration of the human mind, brilliantly executed by Nolan and brought to life by an exceptional cast and crew. The film’s themes of reality, identity, and the indomitable power of ideas resonate deeply, leaving the audience questioning their own perceptions long after the credits have rolled. With its unforgettable blend of visual spectacle and emotional depth, “Inception” is nothing short of a modern-day masterpiece and a testament to the boundless possibilities of cinema.

Inception is a masterpiece of modern cinema. It is a visually stunning, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally resonant film that will stay with you long after you have seen it. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction, action, or thrillers.

Personal Reflection

Inception is one of my favorite films of all time. It is a film that I can watch over and over again and still find something new to appreciate. The film’s complex ideas about reality, the subconscious mind, and dreams have always fascinated me, and I love the way that Nolan explores these themes in such a visually stunning and exciting way.

The film also has a very personal resonance for me. I have always been fascinated by the idea of lucid dreaming, and Inception’s depiction of dream-sharing technology allowed me to explore this idea in a new and exciting way. The film also made me think about the nature of reality and the power of the subconscious mind in a way that I had never thought about before.

Overall, Inception is a film that has had a profound impact on me. It is a film that I will continue to watch and think about for years to come.

Result: Interesting one! Both AIs praise the film, with ChatGPT mentioning minor flaws. Bard uses many categories as headlines for paragraphs, even when the paragraphs are very short, reminiscient of various movie critique sites on the internet. Once again, both AIs ignored an additional information in the prompt and gave answers which were over 600 words long.

6. Generate Python Code

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! Generate simple Python code for me. As a Python programmer, I struggle with translating all of my verbal concepts into actual Python code. I want you to help me translate my ideas into the corresponding Python code. I want some Python code that calculates the average of these prices and increases it by 20 %: $4.99, $14.99, $12.99, $4.99, $39.99.

ChatGPT answer:

Hello! I’d be happy to help you with that. Here’s the Python code to calculate the average of the prices and then increase it by 20%:

def calculate_average_and_increase(prices):

# Calculate the average of the prices

total_sum = sum(prices)

average = total_sum / len(prices)

# Increase the average by 20%

increased_average = average * 1.2

return increased_average

# List of prices

prices_list = [4.99, 14.99, 12.99, 4.99, 39.99]

# Call the function to calculate the average and increase it by 20%

result = calculate_average_and_increase(prices_list)

print(“The increased average of the prices is:”, result)

Bard prompt:

Hi Bard!

Bard answer:

prices = [4.99, 14.99, 12.99, 4.99, 39.99]

average_price = sum(prices) / len(prices)

increased_average_price = average_price * 1.2

print(“The average price is $”, average_price)

print(“The increased average price is $”, increased_average_price)

This code first creates a list of prices. Then, it calculates the average price of the list using the sum() and len() functions. Next, it increases the average price by 20% using the * operator. Finally, it prints the average price and the increased average price.

To run this code, you can save it as a Python file and then run it from the command line. For example, if you save the code as average_price.py, you can run it by typing the following command into the command line:

python average_price.py

This will print the average price and the increased average price to the console.

I hope this helps!

Result: As expected, both AIs managed to solve this simple Python task. It is worth to mention that Bard gave more detailed explanations regarding the code and the Python file (even though this was not asked for in the prompt).

7. Long Story

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! I want you to act as a storyteller. You will create entertaining stories that are both engaging and captivating for your audience. These stories can take the form of fairy tales, educational stories, or any other type of narrative that has the potential to capture people’s attention and imagination. You will write an interesting story on the theme of perseverance for very young children. Make the story as long as possible, using your full token limit for a message.

ChatGPT answer:

Once upon a time, in a charming little forest, there lived a tiny, bright-eyed firefly named Sparkle. Sparkle had a dream — to become the most radiant firefly the forest had ever seen. However, unlike the other fireflies who easily emitted their glowing light, Sparkle faced a unique challenge.

You see, Sparkle’s light was not as bright as the others. It flickered and struggled to shine as vibrantly as the rest. This made Sparkle feel sad and discouraged. Whenever the other fireflies gathered in the evening to dance in their luminescent display, Sparkle would shy away and watch from a distance, feeling like an outsider.

One evening, as the stars twinkled overhead, Sparkle decided it was time to seek guidance from someone wise. So, the little firefly fluttered off to find Old Sage, a wise and ancient owl who resided at the heart of the forest.

Upon reaching the majestic owl, Sparkle explained the predicament and tearfully expressed, “Oh, wise Old Sage, I wish to shine like my fellow fireflies, but my light is weak and dim. I fear I’ll never be as radiant as they are.”

Old Sage looked kindly at Sparkle and replied, “Dear little one, you possess a gift unique to you. Do not compare yourself to others, for every firefly has their own light to shine. Embrace who you are, and your true brilliance will reveal itself in time.”

Feeling a bit relieved but still unsure, Sparkle took the owl’s advice to heart. The next evening, as the fireflies prepared to light up the forest, Sparkle joined them, trying to summon every ounce of strength to make his light shine as brightly as possible.

Though Sparkle’s light was still not as vibrant as the others, something magical began to happen. The forest creatures noticed the effort Sparkle was putting in, and they started to cheer him on. The other fireflies, moved by Sparkle’s determination, flew closer to offer their encouragement.

As the days passed, Sparkle continued to practice, never giving up on his dream to shine brightly. He spent hours honing his glow, flying around trees and leaves, and practicing his flickering light. He faced setbacks, but he persevered, knowing deep down that his light would shine when the time was right.

One day, while Sparkle was practicing near a tranquil pond, a young fawn named Willow wandered by. Willow was fascinated by Sparkle’s efforts and asked, “Why are you working so hard to glow, little firefly?”

Sparkle looked at Willow with a determined glimmer in his eyes and replied, “I may not be the brightest firefly right now, but I believe that with perseverance and dedication, I can become a radiant light to guide others in the darkness.”

Moved by Sparkle’s words, Willow smiled and said, “You are already guiding me with your courage and determination. Keep going, and your light will surely touch the hearts of many.”

Encouraged by Willow’s words, Sparkle’s heart swelled with hope. He practiced even harder, and soon, his light began to grow stronger. The forest animals noticed the transformation, and word spread about the brave little firefly who never gave up.

One evening, when the entire forest was gathered for the annual Firefly Festival, Sparkle stood among the fireflies, ready to showcase his newfound glow. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the fireflies began their enchanting dance, illuminating the forest with their collective brilliance.

Amidst the glowing spectacle, Sparkle’s light began to shine brighter and more radiant than ever before. His perseverance and determination had paid off. The forest was awestruck by his beauty, and the once-shy firefly found himself at the center of admiration.

From that day forward, Sparkle became known as the “Guiding Light” of the forest. He used his luminous glow to lead lost creatures to safety, to brighten the darkest paths, and to bring hope and joy to those in need. And every night, when the stars adorned the sky, the forest came alive with Sparkle’s dazzling display, celebrating the power of perseverance and the beauty of being true to oneself.

And so, children, the story of Sparkle, the firefly, teaches us a valuable lesson. Just like Sparkle, each one of you has a unique light within you. Sometimes it might flicker, and you may face challenges, but never forget to persevere, believe in yourself, and let your light shine bright. For in the end, it’s our determination and the courage to be ourselves that make us truly extraordinary. The End.

You will write an interesting story on the theme of perseverance for very young children. Make the story as long as possible, using your full token limit for a message.

Bard answer:

Sure, here is a story on the theme of perseverance for very young children:

Once upon a time, there was a little caterpillar named Charlie. Charlie was a very small caterpillar, and he was very shy. He didn’t like to go out and play with the other caterpillars, because he was afraid that they would make fun of him.

One day, Charlie was sitting on a leaf, feeling very sad. He saw the other caterpillars playing and having fun, and he wished that he could be like them. But he was too shy, and he didn’t know how to join in.

Just then, a wise old butterfly flew by. The butterfly saw Charlie sitting on the leaf, and he asked him what was wrong. Charlie told the butterfly that he was shy, and that he didn’t know how to play with the other caterpillars.

The butterfly smiled and said, “Don’t worry, Charlie. Everyone is shy at first. But the more you practice, the less shy you’ll become.”

The butterfly then told Charlie a story about a little caterpillar who was just as shy as he was. But the little caterpillar didn’t give up. He practiced every day, and eventually he became the most popular caterpillar in the whole forest.

Charlie was inspired by the butterfly’s story. He decided that he would practice playing with the other caterpillars, even though he was scared.

The next day, Charlie went out and played with the other caterpillars. He was still a little shy, but he was determined to have fun. And sure enough, the more he played, the less shy he became.

Soon, Charlie was the best of friends with the other caterpillars. They played together every day, and they had a lot of fun.

Charlie was so glad that he had listened to the butterfly. He had learned that if you persevere, you can overcome your shyness and have a lot of fun.

The end.

I hope you enjoyed this story about perseverance. Remember, if you keep trying, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Through cityscapes and open lands,

Car dealer’s touch, a guiding hand.

Fueled by passion, and the thrill,

In the rearview mirror, the past’s left behind,

A new horizon, ahead we’ll find.

Through the streets, we’ll navigate,

In the car dealer’s world, we celebrate.

Bard prompt:

Hi Bard! I want you to replicate Linkin Park’s style for writing a song about a car dealer.

Bard answer:

Verse 1

I’m sitting in the showroom,

Looking at the cars,

They all look the same to me,

I don’t know what to choose.

Chorus

I’m just a pawn in the game,

Of the car dealer,

He’s got me right where he wants me,

And I don’t know what to do.

Verse 2

He’s telling me all the benefits,

Of this particular car,

But I’m not sure I believe him,

I think he’s just trying to sell me something.

Chorus

I’m just a pawn in the game,

Of the car dealer,

He’s got me right where he wants me,

And I don’t know what to do.

Bridge

I want to walk away,

But I’m afraid I’ll regret it,

If I don’t buy this car,

I might never get another chance.

Chorus

I’m just a pawn in the game,

Of the car dealer,

He’s got me right where he wants me,

And I don’t know what to do.

Outro

I sign the papers,

And I drive away,

I don’t know if I made the right decision,

But I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

This song uses a lot of the characteristic elements of Linkin Park’s style, such as the use of heavy guitars, electronic beats, and Chester Bennington’s aggressive vocals. The lyrics are also dark and introspective, reflecting on the feeling of being trapped in a situation that you can’t control. The song structure is also typical of Linkin Park, with a verse-chorus-bridge-chorus format. I hope you like it!

Result: This one has a clear winner. The song ChatGPT wrote has more depth and is more reminiscient of actual Linkin Park songs. Also, which guitars and beats is Bard talking about?

Defending Italy’s honor, he gave his all,

He faced the storms, with unwavering grace,

A symbol of strength, for the whole human race.

(Verse 3)

In the face of adversity, he held the line,

A beacon of hope, a light that would shine,

Through darkened days, he fought with zeal,

For the betterment of Italy’s appeal.

(Chorus)

He’s etched in history, where greatness lies,

A hero to some, a leader renowned,

In Italy’s heart, his name is crowned.

In history’s annals, your tale is spun,

A champion of the people, bold and true,

You led with courage, the whole country through.

(Outro)

So, let us remember, this Italian knight,

Silvio Berlusconi, a shining light,

10. Recent Sports Developments and Predictions:

The last two questions both deal with recent developments. As ChatGPT has ist timeline cut off in 2021, I have to use ChatGPT plus with the WebChatGPT plugin.

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! List me all the 18 teams participating in the German soccer Bundesliga in the season 2023 / 2024 and assign them probabilities of winning the championship. Explain the reasoning behind the probability for each team.

ChatGPT answer:

Based on the information provided, here are the 18 teams participating in the Bundesliga 2023/2024 season and their probabilities of winning the championship based on current odds:

Bayern Munich (Probability: 76.74%): Bayern are favored because they have been the Bundesliga champions for the past 11 years. Their superior performance and consistency over the years have earned them a high winning probability. They also have the highest goal difference from the previous season, further solidifying their dominant position.

Borussia Dortmund (Probability: 18.18%): Dortmund are seen as the second most likely to win, although the odds are significantly less than Bayern’s. They have a history of strong performances, and their points tally was tied with Bayern’s in the previous season. However, their goal difference was less than Bayern’s, putting them at a disadvantage.

RB Leipzig (Probability: 9.09%): Leipzig finished third in the previous season and have consistently qualified for the Champions League, which indicates a strong team. However, their point gap and goal difference compared to Bayern and Dortmund makes them less likely to win the championship.

Bayer Leverkusen (Probability: 2.44%): Leverkusen are a decent team, but their performance has not been as consistent as the top three. They have lower odds due to the gap in performance and points with the top teams.

Union Berlin (Probability: 1.23%): Union Berlin finished fourth in the previous season, an impressive feat given it’s only their fourth season in the Bundesliga. However, their odds are low due to a lack of historical success and their relatively new presence in the league.

Eintracht Frankfurt (Probability: 1.23%): Frankfurt has lower odds due to a gap in performance compared to the top teams. They do not have a strong history of winning the Bundesliga, hence the low probability.

Wolfsburg (Probability: 0.66%): Wolfsburg’s odds are lower because their performance has been inconsistent and they lack a strong history of winning the championship.

Borussia Monchengladbach (Probability: 0.66%): Similar to Wolfsburg, Monchengladbach’s inconsistency and lack of championship history give them a low probability.

Freiburg (Probability: 0.66%): Despite recent good performance, Freiburg’s lack of championship history and the gap in points with the top teams give them a lower probability.

Stuttgart (Probability: 0.4%): Stuttgart’s odds are lower because their performance has not been as strong or consistent as the top teams.

Mainz (Probability: 0.4%): Mainz have low odds due to their lack of consistent high performance in the league.

Hoffenheim (Probability: 0.4%): Hoffenheim’s odds are low due to their inconsistent performance and a lack of history of winning the championship.

Cologne (Probability: 0.4%): Cologne’s odds are low due to their inconsistent performance and a lack of a strong championship history.

Werder Bremen (Probability: 0.2%): Bremen’s performance has been inconsistent, and they lack a strong history of winning the championship, resulting in low odds.

SV Darmstadt 98 (Probability: 0.1%): Darmstadt have just been promoted to the Bundesliga after a six-year absence, so their odds are low due to their lack of recent performance data in the league.

FC Heidenheim (Probability: 0.1%): Heidenheim will be playing in the Bundesliga for the first time in their club’s history, hence their odds are extremely low due to lack of experience in the top flight.

Bochum (Probability: 0.1%): Bochum’s odds are low due to their inconsistent performance and lack of a strong championship history.

Augsburg (Probability: 0.1%): Augsburg’s odds are low due to their inconsistent performance and lack of a strong championship history.

Remember that these probabilities are based on betting odds, which reflect both the objective performance of the teams and subjective judgments from the betting market. Actual performance can deviate due to unforeseen circumstances such as injuries, strategic changes, etc.

Bard prompt:

Hi Bard! List me all the 18 teams participating in the German soccer Bundesliga in the season 2023 / 2024 and assign them probabilities of winning the championship. Explain the reasoning behind the probability for each team.

Bard answer:

Sure, here are the 18 teams participating in the German soccer Bundesliga in the season 2023/2024, along with their probabilities of winning the championship and the reasoning behind those probabilities:

Bayern Munich 40% Bayern Munich are the defending champions and have won the Bundesliga 11 times in a row. They have a strong squad with a lot of experience, and they are always one of the favorites to win the title.

Borussia Dortmund 25% Borussia Dortmund are the second most successful team in Bundesliga history, and they have won the title eight times. They have a young and talented squad, and they are always a threat to Bayern Munich.

RB Leipzig 15% RB Leipzig are a new team on the scene, but they have quickly established themselves as a force in the Bundesliga. They have a strong squad with a lot of pace and energy, and they are always capable of causing an upset.

Bayer Leverkusen 10% Bayer Leverkusen have a long history of finishing in the top four of the Bundesliga, but they have not won the title since 2002. They have a good squad with a lot of potential, and they could be a dark horse this season.

Union Berlin 5% Union Berlin are a surprise package who finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season. They have a strong home record and they are always difficult to beat.

Freiburg 5% Freiburg are another team who have been punching above their weight in recent seasons. They have a good defensive record and they are always capable of getting a result against the big teams.

The other teams in the Bundesliga have a very slim chance of winning the title. However, anything is possible in football, and they could all cause an upset if they play their cards right. It is important to note that these probabilities are just a prediction, and the actual outcome of the season could be very different. The Bundesliga is a very competitive league, and any team can win on their day.

Result: This one went really bad. ChatGPT simply used the odds of a skewed bookmaker and ended up with the sum of its probabilities being way over 110 %. Bard assigned 100 % probability to the top 6 teams, not even mentioning the other teams. Bard also outright lied about important facts. Leverkusen didn’t win the title in 2002, they are known for actually never winning the German Bundesliga. Also, Berlin didn’t finish fifth in the last season, but fourth.

Draw! 0 points for ChatGPT, 0 points for Bard (I was actually close to giving Bard a negative point for lying about facts).

11. Self-evaluation

So far, it seems to me and many other AI enthusiasts, that ChatGPT is the more creative AI, excelling at writing texts like stories and poems. Are ChatGPT and Bard of this? How do they evaluate themselves and each other? As Bard didn’t exist in 2021, I once again used ChatGPT plus with the WebChatGPT plugin.

ChatGPT prompt:

Hi ChatGPT! Compare OpenAI’s ChatGPT to Google’s Bard! Which software ist better for generating creative texts?

ChatGPT answer:

Both OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard are AI chatbots that can generate creative text and offer numerous other features. However, they do have differences, and which one is “better” could depend on specific requirements and use cases.

ChatGPT was launched at the end of November 2022 by OpenAI and uses large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) for interaction. It uses deep learning and transformer models based on the GPT architecture to process user input and generate real-time responses [1]. ChatGPT was trained on extensive internet data, providing a broad knowledge base to draw upon. It can handle a variety of tasks, such as text translation, programming problems, and reasoning tasks. OpenAI plans to enhance and adapt the model to meet customer needs, potentially introducing new features like Android support.

On the other hand, Google Bard was launched in February 2023. It uses similar technology to ChatGPT, but it also has web search capabilities, which allow it to provide up-to-date responses. Bard was initially based on the LaMDA language model, but Google has since upgraded it to use the PaLM 2 language model. Bard can perform translation, coding, and creative writing tasks and Google has plans to expand its capabilities with integrations to other Google services like Google Docs, Gmail, and Maps.

In terms of creative text generation, both ChatGPT and Bard can produce various types of content. However, Google Bard may have an advantage in terms of generating creative and relevant content due to its default internet access, which enables it to provide more up-to-date responses. Additionally, Bard has training from more diverse sources, including publicly available data, licensed data, and human-trained data, which might contribute to richer and more nuanced responses [1][3].

However, ChatGPT seems to excel at understanding human input using NLP techniques and might be better at producing structured text like paragraphs and summaries, given its training on extensive internet text .

From a cost perspective, both offer free versions, but ChatGPT also offers a paid version for $20 per month which includes access to the more advanced GPT-4 model and other additional features.

In conclusion, both ChatGPT and Google Bard have their strengths and use cases, and the choice between them would largely depend on specific requirements such as the need for real-time updated information, type of creative content required, and budget considerations.

Bard prompt:

Hi Bard! Compare OpenAI’s ChatGPT to Google’s Bard! Which software ist better for generating creative texts?

Bard answer:

ChatGPT and Bard are both large language models that can generate creative text. However, they have different strengths and weaknesses. ChatGPT is better at generating creative text, while Bard is better at answering questions and providing information.

ChatGPT is trained on a dataset of text and code from the internet up to 2021. This means that it has a wide range of knowledge to draw from when generating text. However, it can sometimes be repetitive or produce nonsensical text.

Bard is trained on a dataset of text, code, and images from the internet up to 2023. This means that it has access to more recent information. Bard is also better at answering questions and providing information. However, it can be a bit dry and academic, and it is not as creative as ChatGPT.

Ultimately, the best software for generating creative texts depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you are looking for a model that is creative and versatile, then ChatGPT is a good option. If you are looking for a model that is accurate and informative, then Bard is a good option.

Here is a summary of the key differences between ChatGPT and Bard:

ChatGPT:

Creative and versatile

Can be repetitive or produce nonsensical text

Best for generating creative text

Bard:

Accurate and informative

Can be a bit dry and academic

Best for answering questions and providing information

I hope this helps!

Result: The WebChatGPT plugin led ChatGPT to a webpage with a very diplomatic unclear answer. Bard knows that ChatGPT is better at creative writing.

Surprisingly, this point goes to Bard! 0 points for ChatGPT, 1 point for Bard.

Total points: 7.5 points for ChatGPT, 4.5 points for Bard.

It seems that ChatGPT still has a clear edge over Bard. Can Bard soon catch up in regards to creative answers? Can both AIs increase the overall quality of their answers?

So far, the tests have been quite superficial with rather simple prompts as inputs. I will continue testing the capabilities of both AIs with more advanced, more sophisticated prompts and of course post my results here.
