Thanks for your comment Dave! I agree that a spark of genuine real interest and passion in the subject will help make the work ethic come more easily to the child. The types of words we use in our praise are very powerful though. So maybe it’s not a matter of telling the child innate talent doesn’t exist but more in favor of highlighting the work they’ve put in, assuming they actually put forth effort. Your point about over-congratulating a child simply for trying is very valid!
