Last work: les chateaux de la loire. It was something I wanted to do since a long time, and I was surprised by the number of chateaux you can find there: more than 150 chateaux de la loire.

Chateau de la Loire — Définition

What we call “chateau de la loire” is a castle that has been built in the Val de Loire area in north west of France, Europe, usually between the tenth cenury and the sixteenth century.

Some of them are well known (i.e chateau de Chenonceau, château de Chambord…), but some others are not known, although very nice and interesting. Don’t be surprised: le chateau de Versailles is not part of les chateaux de la loire.

There is a lot to say about it, and the best would be to read my article about chateaux de la loire in France. For now it is in French, but very soon, it will be translated in English.

Here is an excerpt from my article:

A chateau de la Loire has the particularity of having been altered in the course of the 15th and 16th centuries, when the court of the Kings of France was established in the region of the Val of the Loire. Charles VII and Louis XI had made Tours city the capital of the Kingdom of France.
In addition, it is built in Uronian tufa, or in bricks with tufa chainings.

Additionally, a chateau de la loire is usually classified as a historical monument in France. Some have even been classified as historical monuments since 1840, at the instigation of Prosper Mérimée.

Chateaux de la Loire and Kinship

Some of these castles belonged to the kingship, for instance the Queen Catherine de Medicis or King François 1st, some other to the nobles, and they all have an amazing history, in connection with kings and queens, or very imortant people form the past

I hope you will enjoy my article and research made about it. A long work that may deserve few minutes reading it.

Best Regards,

Alex Antoine, French blogger.
