The Importance of Your Strings

For those of you who play an instrument that has strings, you may be wondering how often you should be changing your strings or what strings you should be using in the first place.

Obviously, depending on what instrument you are interested in playing, or already play, there will be different types of strings, but for today, we are going to focus mainly on the guitar and bass as there are many different types of these instruments, both electric and acoustic, and they are both used in almost every style of music that exists today.

Changing Your Strings

Anybody who plays an instrument with strings will have to replace them sooner or later but how often should you really be changing them? This answer depends on multiple factors but for those who play their instrument every day, I would recommend changing your strings anywhere between every 6 to 8 weeks. The reason why you should be changing your strings so often is due to the wear and tear they undergo. It might not seem like it, but the oils and dirt on your fingers can actually cause the strings to lose their tone quite quickly even if your hands appear to be clean.
