> The network will be built by millions of individual users
No, that’s not possible: since there is an artificial limit of 1MB to bitcoin blocks, that in turn limit the maximum number of txs the network can process, and hence the maximum number of users of the whole blockchain.

A LN channel requires 4 transactions, and to be useful and decentralized a user should have a few channels open, so a single *user* has to make a lot of transactions on the blockchain.

With the current limit of around 300k transactions per day, the maximum theoretical number of openrf and closed channels would be a few tens of thousands, but that’s not considering that the blocks are already full now.

So, this small number of users should pay probably more than 10$ in fees to open a few channels , where each channel by design should handle around 100$ of value. Let’s hope 10% fees to access the LN will sound interesting to them.

And when a big LN hub crashes (or get DDOSsed) all his channels must be closed and related txs must find place in a due time in an already full blockchain, and since that’s not possible, a lot of users will lose their funds.

So, apart for huge fees to have the LN operational, don’t tell the users they will lose their money if some problems arise.
