As a futurist, my bias leads me to believe that the problem in many of these areas is the conservative attitude itself; in this sense I define conservative as the desire to maintain the status quo and deny or reject change. This attitude at worst leads to a lack of new and progressive ideas, and at best a much slower adoption of ideologies and technology that confront the inevitable changes to come. In the wise words of the modern philosopher Neil Peart: “Changes aren’t permanent, but change is”.
