A welcome surprise…

Do you know the feeling you get when you stumble across a book that, just, has that something about it? A book that is thought provoking, has great ideas and is written elegantly. By an author that has a great body of work to consume, including stories reported as a journalist, books and a successful podcast. Well this is where I’m at right now…

Little did I know that while I was reading the first of this authors five books that I was subconsciously ‘finding my voice’ for the way I want to write. The way his ideas were organised and the topics he covers were wonderfully aligned with my personal interests.

I’m glad to have found his books and be able to write about how I believe that I’ve ‘found my voice’ for my own writing.

Don’t Copy

It would be crushing if you, or me, were considered a copycat. Can’t think for yourself!! Fraud!! Not original!!

When I say that this author has helped me find my voice, I mean that I have been made aware of certain subject matter that I should write about [subject matter that I wrote about for my psychology research project at university]. I mean that the way I present the information will be slightly adjusted after listening to this author explain how he does it.

By taking the bits of advice, methods and strategy that work for me and combining them with my own style [or you doing this for your own style] my own voice will start to come through in the pieces that I put together.

So for the third week running, I must show my appreciation to Malcolm Gladwell, an incredible and inspirational author. Having had a piece of my own writing receive positive feedback I think that this is working for me quite well and long may it continue.
