Around 8.6% of Americans are felons. So that would mean that around 91% of Americans are generally law abiding. Of course you can’t be a police officer if you’re a felon, but there must be some percentage of police that are indeed criminals/racists/bigots. Would it be fair to suggest that perhaps 91% of police are generally good people?
So when you walk into a restaurant and look at the patrons do you assume you’ve walked into a room full of felons? Statistically, one in ten of the patrons might be criminals — but I suspect most people give everyone in the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps we should treat police officers like patrons of a restaurant — give them the benefit of the doubt until we learn otherwise.
Imagine how skinny we all would be if we assumed every restaurant was filled with felons/racists/bigots.
