  1. Both Republicans and Democrats had to work together to shut the government down. At the end of the day nothing bad happened. No one died. No one missed a paycheck. Nothing happened. The fact that you’re bringing it up means that you’re simply using it to make a political point — not a point that matters to the American people.
  2. The Republicans have a vested interest in ensuring that the empty seat is filled with a conservative like Scalia. The Democrats have a vested interest in seeing the seat filled with a liberal. It is okay. It is just reality. There is no rule about how many justices must serve on the court — the Congress gets to decide that. If the Republicans stay in control of the Congress and we lose another justice I suspect we’ll leave things as-is.
  3. The invasion of Iraq was a bipartisan decision. Even Hillary Clinton voted to attack. Sorry.
