Why does it matter? Earlier today we all learned in spectacular fashion that a rogue staffer on Hillary’s campaign originated the “birther” story in 2007. Shortly afterward Hillary Clinton personally made the decision to fire the staffer. For the past eight years Hillary Clinton has lied to the American people and the media. She knew in 2007 that her campaign started the birther story — she knew because she personally made the decision to fire the originator.
The conventional wisdom has been that the campaign used “surrogates” to spread the story, but Hillary Clinton and members of her 2008 campaign all claimed they had nothing to do with the birther story. Fact checking websites like Politifact, Factcheck, Snopes, Opensecrets, Truthorfiction, and Hoaxslayer all concluded that the story that Hillary’s campaign originated the story. They were all wrong. They relied on Hillary’s denials and the media’s willingness to repeat those denials.
Why does it matter? Time and time again we’re confronted with the reality that Hillary Clinton has a very hard time telling the truth. Even when it is in her best interest to tell the truth (i.e. her health issues) she can’t help but lie. Had Hillary simply admitted that the birther story originated with her campaign and that she IMMEDIATELY fired the perpetrator the story would have ended — instead she has continued to lie about the matter.
The media needs to hold Hillary Clinton to account. She needs to apologize to the American people for lying about the Birther story for the past eight years. She needs to apologize today.
