Live Like A King (Even When Your Pockets Say Otherwise)
Maintaining piece of mind through the daily challenges of entrepreneurship is imperative to success and confidence is key.
Waking up and feeling like you are in control and ready to handle anything and everything comes with time and proper grooming and choosing to live like a King can help you achieve the level of mastery needed to navigate around a moat full of sharks.
Below are a few life hacks you can incorporate into your routine that will help make you live like a king even when your pockets show otherwise.
1. Keeping the Peace
As King your first rule of order is keeping the peace. This is key to running a successful kingdom is all about keeping the peace. As entrepreneurs and business owners that often means working smarter not harder and tackling hardest things first. By putting the unwanted tasks first you reward your mind by allowing it to check off the most daunting task leaving you feeling more accomplished and confident in the process.
2. Head into “The Study”
Everyone comes from different circumstances and faces a set of their own unique challenges or in the words of some great philosopher out there “The world isn’t fair.” But that doesn’t mean to give up and throw in the towel. No, quite the latter that means to pony up on the one circumstance you can control. Your effort. And if you capitalize and double down on effort I have the perfect spot in the castle for you to head into, a space where you will most certainly be left unbothered, affording you the space and knowledge needed to make crucial decisions. Enter “The Royal Study” often known as your “Local Library.”
There you will be able to have conversations and pick the brains of most respected leaders in your field and perhaps gain the mentor you never had. Putting in the effort here is what separates the novice from the expert. Warren Buffet, iconic American businessman famously said, “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.” Don’t rule out the power of audiobooks and podcasts either, whether you are renting from the library or using your smartphone on apps like Audible, ITunes U, or Podcasts there are a plethora of ways to get quality reads right to your phone. How about that for making your daily commute to and from the castle a little more productive!
If you are based in the San Diego area, I highly recommend checking out the San Diego Central Library in the East Village, one of the most public modern spaces I have ever been.
3. Rest and Relaxation
We all need it. Despite all the efforts put forth to the daily grind a little R and R is often the key to unlocking new potential. In the words of the great coach Phil Jackson, “When the mind is allowed to relax, inspiration often follows.”
So how can the King relax on a shoe string budget? One way is through meditation. Find a quiet room or even a space outdoors that allows you to disconnect and disengage from the world for about 15–20 minutes. Focus on your breathe in and out and attempt to block out any racing thoughts. Focussing on the present moment allows for mental clarity and can leave you in a state of calm or euphoria. In time you will long for these moments.
Live in an apartment that has a hot tub? Or have a friend who does? Schedule a time to get a few moments to soak and let your muscles and body recover after a long hard day. The other great benefit of being submerged in water is that you will need to disengage from your phone. Taking a few moments to go without your digital extension of self can do wonders for the body and mind.
So there you have it. You don’t have to have the wealth of a King to live like a King and by adding some positive and productive habits you can bring your self that much closer to your goals.
