1. What did you do this past week?

In class we covered SQL basics the whole week, learning about things like making tables, selecting from tables, inserting into tables, and using the “like” for selecting things using regular expressions. Later on in the week we started learning more advanced ways of using select and join together with multiple tables.

Outside of class I focused mostly on my Computer networks exam that I had early on in the week, which actually turned out to be easier than the practice exam that we had made it out to be. After that I started working on refining our data for the next phase of our SWE project. It turns out there is a decent amount of data that we have that should absolutely not be there. Considering our website revolves around food and recipes, us having a recipe with a connection to Gold Bond body powder as an grocery option for an ingredient doesn’t look very good. Some of these errors in our data are fairly easy to spot, but considering we have a couple of thousand of entries for some of our models, I’ll have to be satisfied with fixing the errors that I can find.

2. What’s in your way?

I missed out on a prior class explaining how all of the joins work, so I’ve gotta go back and figure out what is going on there so that I’m not completely lost in the future should we use that. Other than that, all I’ve got to do is meet with my SWE group to finish up this phase.

3. What will you do next week?

Hopefully get together with my SWE group and work to finish this phase of the project before the due date.

4. What was your experience of SQL?

I was not very knowledgeable of SQL before coming into this class, but learning about SQL in class was easy enough for me to pick it up without much thought.

5. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

If you aren’t too keen on using docker, this series of articles on docker is fairly easy to understand and follow to get you up to speed on docker.
