Tyler Perry is the Problem, here’s why.

There needs to be an arrest warrant out for Tyler Perry, I ‘ve had enough. Just kidding I would never wish incarceration on a black man (if not fully deserved), but seriously, why is he like this?

With the release of Beauty in Black on Netflix, it’s time to admit Tyler Perry is the problem. (I will not spoil the series for those who are curious. Check it out at your own risk.) This isn’t the first time you have heard this; it will certainly not be the last. I must admit I have a love hate relationship with Tyler. It stems from him being a part of my childhood. Both sides of my family would purchase his stage plays from the local bootleg man for all of us to view during gatherings. Ther first play I ever saw was Diary of a Mad Black Woman. I was too young to understand the themes or the humor of the play, but now that I’m an adult, I realize Tyler has stuck to a very effective formula. The story usually centers around a black woman who is highly educated yet insecure or chasing a man who doesn’t want her or being abused by that said man emotionally and physically or a black woman who is down on her luck or a black woman who is a former addict or a black woman who is a stripper/prostitute or a black woman who is a struggling single mother or Eva Marcille who plays Madam on All the Queens Men who is a certified sociopath. These variations of black women are coupled with a sometimes-horrible family and even worse spouse. This formula is as outdated as Trumps combover wig, yet…
