6 Question Types ( Notes)

  1. Close ended question - very short answers ( yes or no).
  2. Open ended question- gives more information from the person being interviewed. (use open ended questions with people who haven’t really been interviewed before.)
  3. Hypothetical question- set up a situation or condition for a person to respond. (asking about what might happen, not typical questions we use.) These are especially good for presidential candidates and sports.
  4. The agree or disagree question- questions in asking if someone agrees or disagrees. (Not used very frequently)
  5. The probing question- the follow up to something that has already been said. It goes deeper into the answer, then just skimming the surface.
  6. Personal question- question on the personal life. It can be difficult epecially if it is a tragic story. Build a trust relationship with the person being interviewed. Ask the personal questions during the middle or towards the end of your interview.
