Austin Butler Will Be Hosting SNL
It was recently announced that Austin Butler (Elvis, Dune: Part Two) will have his Saturday Night Live debut on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Butler is most recently recognized as playing rock and roll icon, Elvis Presley, in the summer of 2022. Elvis has been nominated for numerous awards such as the People’s Choice Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and most recently the hit blockbuster has been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards. Butler is up for ‘Best Actor of the Year’ alongside Hugh Jackman, Brendan Fraser, and Bill Nighy. This has proven to be a tremendous year for the 32-year-old California native.
Butler’s musical guest will be Grammy award-winning artist, Lizzo. Many fans will most definitely be expecting an Elvis-inspired skit but would this be insensitive? Baz Lurhman, Butler, and the Elvis movie team worked closely with Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla and the family to ensure the utmost respect for Mr. Presley. With that being said, is it something that most fans expect or would it be a total misthrow?
The most recent 2022 SNL hosts have been icons such as Keke Palmer, Steve Martin and Martin Short, Megan Thee Stallion, and Jack Harlow. The audience feedback of SNL has been hit or miss over the past year though the recent hosts have proven to peak audience interest and spike ratings. Austin Butler is the perfect end-of-the-year host though it does beckon why he was not chosen during the press tour of Elvis. Despite the seeming lateness of the host schedule, fans still eagerly anticipate Butler’s SNL debut and are excited to see him back on the TV screen.
Some may know Butler from hit children’s shows and movies on Disney and Nickelodeon or the Carrie Diaries. He has never stopped being a heartthrob for most whether it was from Zoey 101 or Elvis. His upcoming appearance on the silver screen as Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two alongside iconic costars Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet. Florence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling) is also making her debut in the Dune series as Princess Irulan.
