CARPET REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE METHODS

Some carpet damages can be fixed instead of replacing which is expensive. They include burn marks, small area discolorations, bleach stains, runs in Berber and pulled tufts, wrinkles and bubbles, pet damages and open and worn seams. Several methods are used commercially to repair the carpets. For effective carpet repair, carpet must be thoroughly cleaned before repair. These tips are given from http://www.nextlevelcleaners.com/ .The carpet repair methods include:
Cut and Plug
This method is used to repair small areas of carpet that are burned, stained or similarly damaged. The damaged piece is cut out using a circular carpet cutting tool, seam adhesive to the cut edges of the carpet to prevent fraying and allow it to dry and a good piece of matching carpet hot-glued into place (carpet fiber direction must be noted before positioning the piece). The adhesive should not get to surrounding fibers, fit occurs, carefully trim the glued-in fibers back to level of the carpet.
Re-stretching
Wrinkled/bubbled carpets are re-stretched making the carpets tight therefore prolonging carpet life by eliminating wrinkles which cause quick wear and tear and consequently eliminating danger of tripping on loose material.
Carpet ‘Shaving’
This method is used to mend melted/burnt ends. Using a sharp cutting material, the melted ends are ‘shaved’ by taking off little material possible. This method works well with shags and dense carpets but only if the burns are not deep.
Bleach discoloration
A dye kit is used to eliminate carpet discoloration by flooding the damaged area with bleach neutralizer, ensuring it neutralizes all parts affected. An acid solution is added to the carpet surface to bring the PH down (to at least three).
