I recently saw a blog post on Medium about a new productivity app called getdelegate.com — a company that bills itself as your “Chief of Stuff” that takes care of all your personal tasks. I was intrigued by the concept, but wasn’t sure how much I would actually use the service. I tried it out for a few weeks and found that it really helped me clear the headspace currently occupied by the annoying “to-do” items that would pop into my head throughout the day.
As soon as I got the hang of it, I realized that there were a lot of daily obstacles that slowed me down and added stress to my life. Here are some of the things that Delegate was able to help me with within my first few weeks:
Delegating reminders over the weekend
I often find that over the weekend, I’ll remember things that I need to take care of during the week: scheduling doctor’s appointments, calling my carpenter to have him fix my cabinets, etc. Delegate makes it really easy to cross these items off your list immediately. I just had to open the app and either type a quick message or send a voice recording of what I wanted done.
The first weekend after I downloaded Delegate, I remembered I needed to schedule a dermatologist appointment that I had been putting off for months. It took just a minute or two to open the app and record a message, asking Delegate to schedule a doctor’s appointment. All I had to do was give them the basic information I was looking for: a dermatologist in my network, close to my home, available on Friday morning. Delegate took care of booking the appointment and I no longer had that nagging feeling of knowing that this was still on my to-do list.
Delegating a dog-walker
My wife and I both have fast-paced jobs and busy schedules, and we’ve found that coordinating a dog-walker takes an inordinate amount of our time. Delegate now coordinates all of this for us. All we have to do is let them know the times we’ll need someone to come walk our dog, and they take care of the rest: finding dog-walkers who are trustworthy, scheduling times for them to come walk our dog, and coordinating access for them to enter our apartment. I was impressed by how seamless this process was, and it wasn’t until I started using Delegate for this that I truly realized how much time I was spending just to make sure that there was always someone to walk my dog.
Birthdays and Anniversaries
As I said, both my wife and I work long hours at hectic jobs — and we often let things slip through the cracks. I’m always missing birthdays and anniversaries of good friends, and when I do happen to remember, it’s typically at the last minute and I don’t have time to send a card or buy a gift. Delegate is really helpful with this. I gave them a list of all the important dates that I have to remember, and they send me reminders. They also offer to handle sending a card, flowers, or a gift. They’ll send me a few options to choose from, and then they take it from there. I’ve been impressed with how easy the process has been and the high quality of service providers they recommend.
It’s only been a few weeks, but Delegate is already saving me tons of time and generally making me feel less stressed. Some of the tasks I delegate to them legitimately save me hours; some of them may only save me a few minutes, but make me feel like a load is lifted because I can cross something off my list that had been there for too long. I would recommend Delegate to other busy people looking to take some of that load off.
