William Shatner, Morena Baccarin, Karl Urban, Rene Auberjonois… what do they all have in common, other than starring in some of the most successful TV shows of the last two decades? They’re all coming to Florida Supercon in Miami this year!

SuperCon, known as the biggest Comic Con in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, was founded in 2006 by Mike Broder.

When I first started Florida Supercon in 2006, the South Florida convention scene was pretty bleak. There were a few (very) small monthly or bi-monthly comic shows… none really drawing more than 200 people (with a few minor exceptions) and there was a free college anime convention (Yasumi-Con) in Miami. That was about it. — Mike Broder in South Florida Convention History

I don’t think anyone would of have ever imagined this turning in to a four-day event attracting more than 50,000 nerds, geeks, artist and fans. Honestly, you’ll find all types of people there.

Florida’s comic con scene had humble beginnings, and the first notable convention was only about 40 years ago. In 1975, a small event called MiamiCon featured comic book legends Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Neal Adams and several other prominent figures.

While today’s SuperCon features national and internationally known celebrities, entertainers, and artists, the scene has also grown a lot more locally, with many prominent comic book and game creators, springing up right here in Miami.

One of the most noteworthy local comic book developers is Creature Entertainment, which has been producing some brilliantly original comics over the past few years. Titles like Bubba The Redneck Werewolf” (pretty much self explanatory) and the Zombie Years, a post-apocalyptic thriller set right here in Miami.

Let’s not forget, MIAMIVERSE’s game devs and good friends Game Trep (Andru Fratarcangeli), David Nuñez (Creator of Gel Fighters), and Tattoo & Comics will be there too!

So… what else am I most excited for at SuperCon?

I’m excited to see the actors. Boston Legal, Stargate SG-1, and V are some of my favorite TV shows and I’d love to see some of the creative artists that helped these shows come to life.

I also want to ask William Shatner about his womanizing past and his feud with George Takai.

SuperCon is July 1–4, 2016 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Go to floridasupercon.com for tickets, prices, and more info.

Hope to see you at SuperCon!
