A Call for Cooperation Against Fake News
Jeff Jarvis

I think it’s disgusting that 2 private corporations like Google and Facebook have such a monopoly on things that they are actually the defacto source of every bit of “news” that enters the life of a typical person. And now they want to decide even more what to show people about their world by arbitrarily calculating what is “fake” or not? Insane. Preposterous. People should be trusted to be smart enough to decipher what’s real and what isn’t, what’s important and what isn’t, etc — or else we can just forget about people in general, and forget about democracy too. If we think people are simply to dumb to process information critically, and we want to restrict what information they have access to… well, then it’s a whole different world, isn’t it?
