10 Athletes with Ridiculous Diets

I thought I’d seen everything until I read number 7

Over the past 6 months I have had discussions with Olympic level athletes as to what their workout and nutritional programs are. After compiling over 50 athletes worth of information for the Sports and Fitness app: ROOKEE, I decided to do some research into the most “ridiculous” diets of athletes from around the world, Enjoy :)

  1. Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps is a well known Olympic champion and to maintain his gold medal physique he is known to consume up to 12,000 calories a day, whilst in training. It has been said that he eats three breakfast sandwiches, an omelette, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast and three chocolate-chip pancakes just for breakfast alone!

2. Marshawn Lynch

Seattle Seahawk Superstar Marshawn Lynch is fuelled by nothing other than skittles! He regularly consumes them throughout games and is rumoured to have his own skittle dispenser in the locker room.

3. Tyson Gay

Tyson Gay has a very precise diet and to ensure peak performance will only consume exactly 20 almonds before training or competing.

4. Brian Urlacher

Brian Urlacher has a game day ritual where he eats two chocolate chip cookies before every single game!

5. Michael Arnstein

Michael Arnstein is a vegan marathon runner who has nicknamed himself the Fruitarian. He has competed in over 50 marathons and lives off the 80/10/10 diet consisting of mostly raw foods. The switch to 6,000 calories of raw vegan food has helped him shave 17-minutes off his race time.

6. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a famous WWE Wrestling now actor who consumes a diet so dense in seafood that his yearly intake of cod amounts to 821-pounds of the fish per year.

7. Lyoto Machida

Mighty MMA fighter Lyoto Machida has a strange way of hydrating his body and revealed he drinks his own urine! Lyoto has said that urine possess natural medicinal qualities and attributes to his success.

8. Usain Bolt

The famous Olympic medalist was reported to have consumed over 47,000 calories worth of Chicken McNuggets at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

9. LeBron James

MVP LeBron James is well-known for his love of Trix. The cereal was apparently his favourite breakfast growing up and has stuck with him ever since. Another odd diet habit is his request for his steak and spaghetti to be cut up for him whenever he eats out.

10. Kazakhstan Olympic Wrestling Team

Before going to their games, the Olympic wrestlers in Kazakhstan would eat horse meat, made from sausages and guts. The team claims that horse sausages increased their abilities and skills in weight lifting.
